Investigators said he smothered his son, strangled his wife, and hanged himself in his weight room. Coward.

Benoit doesn't seem like the type of guy to do such a thing and I hope that he didn't.</div> From a Psych point of view, it is never the person you suspect to do that. When you're depressed, really truly depressed, you don't show it to others if it is so severe. Many people lash out and do things like this often, I remember a case in France in a very similar situation as this. I believe he did do it folks, he killed his wife and child too because he couldn't live without them, but didn't want to live anymore. <div class="quote_poster">Chutney Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">I bet it has something to do with steroids. It'd have to be an extreme case of depression, for sure.
Yeah, I've heard that steroids lead to depression, roid rage, and all that. I'd put my money on steroids being an issue here and if they are, I expect the steroid investigations in all sports to get a hell of a lot harder, especially because this man killed his family. Police aren't releasing if they found steroids in the house, but I think it's more than obvious that there were. R.I.P to Chris, his wife, and his son. I still don't understand how you can smother your son and strangle your wife.
I've also heard of steroids leading to depression. I wouldn't be surprised if roids were behind this.

This really seems like a depression case to me. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I still don't understand how you can smother your son and strangle your wife.</div> Depression changes people into something they are not. I've studied so many cases it just reads out too much like the others not to be a depression case. People that get to that point are basically uncurable.
I think we all agree it was a depression case. We just think that it's the steroids that led him to such a serious case.
<div class="quote_poster">Swish Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">I think we all agree it was a depression case. I think that may be a reach. I think it's pretty obvious steroids were probably the cause for his depression, but that's interesting that you say that. I think a lot of pro athletes feel that way. It is possible for steroids to lead to depression, right? (not being a smart ass, making sure)
Yes, it is, but in most cases it just leads to violent temper issues more then actual depression. It could be a case of both, but he obviously wasn't too violent as he could've been IMO, based on steroid abuse cases. Whatever the cause, very sad story.
<div class="quote_poster">Swish Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">I think we all agree it was a depression case. We just think that it's the steroids that led him to such a serious case.</div> I doubt steroids were the only reason for this. It was probably a number of different things that led to him feeling the need to kill his family and himself. It was definitely depression related, like M Two One said depression isn't obvious on the outside but on the inside people who are depressed are self destructive and are capable of doing this type of thing. This is a really weird case though. According to TMZ (bullshit gossip website) he strangled wife on Saturday, smothered son on Sunday, hung himself on Monday. I've also read from unofficial sources that his son was coughing up blood before he went home due to "family emergency" over the weekend.
Another weird rumor I heard was that his wife and son, not just son, were coughing up blood. Possibly euthanasia?
Yea, I'd definitely bank on it being a variety of causes that just came together to create this horrible tragedy. That's what makes it so tough to speculate.
We'll find out soon enough what's happened, but I'm definitely going with depressive murder and suicide. He then struggled with the torment for a day and then found the strength to kill himself after figuring out how to do without it failing. Seems pretty easy to figure now based on what happened actually because it reminds me almost exactly of the case in France.
