<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Future Hall of Fame center Patrick Ewing, who finished a 17-year NBA playing career in Orlando, could be returning to the Magic next season as an assistant coach under Stan Van Gundy.

According to those close to Ewing, he is strongly considering an offer from Van Gundy to rejoin the Magic and help coach 21-year-old center Dwight Howard.

Ewing didn't coach in the NBA last season, leaving the Houston Rockets after three years working under head coach Jeff Van Gundy, Stan's brother. He also served as an assistant coach with the Washington Wizards.

Ewing, 44, played 15 seasons for the New York Knicks, becoming their all-time leading scorer (23,665 points) and rebounder (10,759 rebounds). He was the No. 1 pick of the 1985 draft out of Georgetown University.

He played his final year with the Magic, when he averaged six points and four rebounds during the 2001-02 season.

Van Gundy, who replaced Brian Hill as the Magic head coach, declined to comment specifically on his staff, which he is close to finalizing.

"We're almost done, but there are a few things to finish,'' he said.</div>

I'm behind hiring Ewing 100%. It's about time we get a legendary big man in Orlando tutoring Dwight. Almost every other young big man has one (Yao has Hakeem, Bynum has Kareem, etc.) Can you imagine how much Dwight's game would grow under someone like Patrick Ewing? I'll be pretty pumped if we bring him in.

Ewing would be great for Dwight. Another good step forward for the Magic if they get him.

but yeah i think he'll lbe great for Dwight. The only thing is that Ewing wont help Dwight develop a jumpshot.

Patrick Ewing would definitely be a good fit for this team. But let's not talk about him playing for this organization along with Shawn Kemp lol those were the bad yrs.

I don't think Dwight will ever be a jumpshooter. It's just not his style. He has tons of power and that's what is going to make him so dominant throughout his career. Bringing in Ewing will just help him not become so reliant on dunking and power moves. A mid range jumper and maybe a hook shot would be a nice addition to Dwight's offensive arsenal.
