The question that I pose to you is the Is the same in the Title "Does the NBA have too many team? Is the league watered down? In my opinion it is. Thats why so many players are crying trade.

I know there are alot of basket ball fans in here. Some are diehard fans of their towns franchise. others are Die hard fans of their favorite NCAA Team.
But I pose this question to the NBA fan (the guy who follows the league and not just 1 team).

As of now there are 30 teams in the league. IMO there are alot of players that start in the NBA who arent NBA starters. My idea its to hypetheticly destroy 4 teams in the nba.

the 4 worst teams in the NBA right now

    Celtics
    Grizz
    Sonics
    Atlanta

Here are the 4 small market teams

    Bobcats
    Grizz
    Sonics
    Wolves

So now the two teams that repeated in these lists were The sonics and the grizz. so those are 2 teams gone out of the league

And the other 2 teams will be eliminated based on popularity. With KG on the trading block Minny would have to go. Then lastly the Bobcats, since they have the worst name in the nba. When I hear bobcats I think of 8th grade basketball.
    Destroyed teeams
    Sonics
    Grizz
    Bobcats
    Minny

Now what do we do with the remainder of players? We allow them to to be picked like a draft. The teams with the worst records will have first pick. Plus Teams will have the option to send players to the D league to make room for the new players. Also the salary cap rule will be uninforced on players picked up in this situation until their current contract runs out.

an example the team with the worst record would be the Boston

They would probably accept pau Gasol

    3 Chucky Atkins G 5-11 185 08/14/1974
    35 Brian Cardinal F 6-8 245 05/02/1977

After this happens alot of teams would get better. and alot of scrubs would be eliminated from the league.

In short I see that the NBA in the next 30 years will endup like hokey. Too many teams in too many cities.

Seattle isn't a small market but Oklahoma City definitely is.

The league should have never expanded past the Magic, Heat, Timberwolves, and Hornets. When Charlotte lost their team there truly was no need to bring an expansion team back there and to be honest I do not feel as if Canada has really adopted basketball after the Raptors and Grizzlies were awarded franchises.

As much as I would like to get rid of a couple of teams I think that the league would be better off limiting the number of years on every players contract so that they were more compelled to play at a higher level. It seems to have worked for football.

What do you mean, province's like Alberta and Prince Edward Island, or Canada in general? There has been a big increase in basketball fans in Canada in comparison to back when the Raptors first came. Also Toronto is one of the better and more international markets in the league, and is definately a big positive.

I agree that the league has been watered down. I think its kind of silly to close up the bobcats when they just got created 2 years ago.

Seattle is a small basketball market. Having a small market does not mean they can not support a team though which is why Charlotte got their franchise back and why Portland continues to be known as a great basketball city despite being a relatively small market.

I agree though if they do away with guarnateed contracts the league would be better off. Too often teams are restricted by the fact that they dropped a player but are still paying this millions that were left on his contract (Tom Gugliotta comes to mind [IMG] ). It's too tough to get rid of a team like Charlotte right now because they haven't had ample time to actually try and put a team together. The players eligible in the expansion draft put expansion teams at such a disadvantage that it's impossible to win within five years because they need to build through the actual draft. Look at what they have done so far with Emeka, Felton, May, and Morrison is bound to come around. They can very well become a 40 win team in a year or two.

There are plenty of players to keep these teams competitive but the contracts that most teams are stuck with just make it impossible for some teams to ever get over the hump.

Why is portland not on your list? They are a complete joke as of late. Wihtout lucking out in the lottery they would still be a joke. And seeing how you didn't take this offseason into consideration for your list why isn't portland there? also, why not the Bucks? Both of those teams are worse off right now than charlotte and minny

Also, what about the clippers? The seem to me like they are gonna be pretty crappy next year. Cassell and Mobley are pretty dang old and with no livinston until at least half way, who is gonna be good besides brand and maybe kaman? LA already has one team...

The league wasn't as good as it used to be for the reasons because popular teams like Lakers, Knick, Celtics, are still mediocre.
