<u>Ellis Almost Traded</u> <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Jun 27 - The Warriors seriously considered giving up second-year guard Monta Ellis in order to move up in Thursday's NBA draft, the Contra Costa Times has learned. But the Warriors never pulled the trigger. According to a league source, the Warriors had a deal on the table that would send Ellis to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for the No. 11 overall pick. The move-up in the draft presumably would have been a first step toward getting one of the most promising players in the draft, Chinese forward Yi Jianlian. -- Contra Costa Times </div> <div align="center"></div> As a business decision, it would be very smart for the Warriros to get Yi Jianlian because of the wide asian community in the area. But at pick 11 it's not even guaranteed The Warriors could get him. Plus didn't this exact situation happen with Gilbert Arenas a few years ago after winning the MIP award. Now look at him. So overall i fell this would be a good business move...but a terrible team move.

Well... The bottom line is that with current pace, we cannot sign both Monta and Biedrins without paying luxury tax. So, either salary dump needs to be made or we have to cash in either Monta or Biedrins. I guess Warriors are looking very hard to cash in either Richardson or Monta...
Another reason the Warriors might be in talks with Atlanta or Charlotte is to nix any deal the Suns or Lakers are trying to put together to acquire Kevin Garnett. Apparently the Hawks or Bobcats are the third team needed to get a deal sweet enough for the TWolves to agree to.

Seems like theres a couple of rumors from different places saying that Nellie and Mullin have soured on Ellis because of his attitude or behavior. Seems contradictory of what we know of him but it could be a possibility. Also like Kwan said we can't re-sign Biedrins and Ellis, might as well cash in now if it gives us a shot at a good big man and by the time his rookie contract is up we'll have some of our bigger contracts coming off the books.

I haven't heard any rumors of Mullin or Nellie souring on Ellis. I thought Nellie was a big supporter of his? My thoughts were Nellie was infatuated with a player in the lottery and was willing to sacrifice Ellis for that player. I'm not sure if that player is Yi or someone else.

If I were putting money down it would be on Yi but with Nellie I wouldn't be surprised with anyone if we were to move up. The rumors about Ellis falling out of favor are just that. They have no specific details but I know rotowire was one place I saw it mentioned. Take it with a grain of salt but the one thing that seems to be a constant among these rumors is that Ellis is being shopped hard.

IT sickens me ...... just stay as we are .... we finally have some success. Add to it. don't get rid of a known commodity on a prayer that a draft pick is gonna come through. Especially at 8 and above. There is no one in this draft i would rather have aside from the big two for Ellis or J-rich. TRade foyle, i know no one wants him. Trade Al Harrington. TRading Ellis would be trading away an all star ...... at least we know what he can do right now at this level..... and his amazing potential..... for what? Yi? a guy that could be a Skita? I dont see Nelson as some brilliant GM. In fact quite the opposite. He was the one that destroyed the franchise the last time. With stupid trades like the Billy O trade, the Webber fiasco, getting us nothing for him....donyell marshall.... yeah right.... how about getting rony seikely.... They might as well trade Biedrins too if they trade Ellis..... those two are our building blocks .... the future.... so they say.... so that we believe crap was all a joke. I say trade down with the suns
I've heard the negative rumors on Monta. He's taken up with bad company. We can't afford to keep him and AB and Baron. I haven't seen any substance to this. Plain bull. As for the Monta trades, it's like any of the other trade rumors we've heard on JRich, Baron, etc. I doubt we do a lopsided trade like this.
I am all for drafting Yi if he is available or we can trade someone on our team that is not our core to get him. He is too unknown to give away a proven player like Ellis at this point. I would trade anyone not named Ellis, Baron and Beidrens. The only way I trade one of those guys is if we are getting an All Star in return. Ellis for the #1 or 2 would be a no brainer, but anything after that is too risky.

Was getting jackson a bad influence on Monta? Baron a contributor? I thought his Mom was living with him and controlling things.
IMO Monta is too valuable as a combo guard in the open court. He actually did fill in quite well when Baron was out with injuries playing both defense and good individual offense. If Baron is getting hurt 20 games a season, there's nobody else better than Ellis to be unstoppable off that drive. I'm not saying Monta is unguardable type quickness, but he has the potential to be if he can control the ball better and develop more moves. I think he's really amazing with the way he moves to begin with. I like how he can shoot off the dribble and finish off balance. Attitude wise, I love how he seems so poised and confident despite being very young and skinny. I think he's one of the reasons why the Warriors caught so much fire down the stretch. When one guy is worried about guarding Baron Davis on the ball, there's another guy worried about covering Ellis or Sjax off the ball on the way to the basket and leaving either Sjax, Richardson, Baron or Al Harrington open out on the arc. The speedy, athletic drive-and-kick ballhandlers can really do damage if we got some long range marksmen out there who can also drive and go inside some. Only Baron Davis is the master of threading the needle with passes before the play happens. But Ellis could very well prove to be a decent playmaker like Jason Terry or be as good as guys like Marbury or Chauncey Billups. Who knows... that unknown is what makes him so risky, yet rewarding to hold onto. I wouldn't want to get Yi because of his nationality and trying to earn more revenue. I'd want to get him because he could be good in a way that smaller players can't emulate. I would want to get him if he can be a franchise big man player. To some degree, I think Ellis could prove to be a franchise combo guard in the way he proved himself offensively and defensively this year. He just needs to get stronger and more polished as a playmaker. He needs to be a better ballhandler, free throw shooter, and distance shooter (especially set shots). People can say, "wait... we have Baron Davis already..." but we can't count on that guy's health. We need that extra ballhandler type depth IMO. If we're worried about not being able to re-sign Ellis for a good reason, then I guess we have no choice but to sell him while he's hot and get another player that we need and has the potential to be very good... but Ellis for #11 or #8 or whatever... dang... that's insulting. And Yi might even be gone before then if we pick at #11... I think Yi and Ellis could be worth more than #8 and #11 anyway. Ellis should at least go for a #5 because of where he left off and Yi should be a top 4-5 at the most and top 10 at the least. I'm not super confident about Yi, but who is when it comes to skinny internationals that don't particularly put up the super numbers against nba-like competition or do the things we look for in nba type future-allstars. It's all about the adjustment potential IMO and I think Yi has as good as a chance as any other top selected international rookie. Remember, Andrea Bargnani? Remember the hype on Andrew Bynum? What about Andrew Bogut, the supposed next Tim Duncan according to some? Then there's LaMarcus Aldridge and Channing Frye... Heck, it's a crapshoot... Given today's power forward/centers, I'll take Yi if the cost ain't too high. Losing Ellis is a high cost if we have a chance to re-sign him. I don't see any other perimeter player that gets in the lane affectively and blows by people other than the boss and Sjax. I suppose if we give up Ellis, gain Yi and get a backup combo guard like a Earl Watson or a Charlie Bell or Mo Williams or a former all-star point like Van Exel, I'll be happy if we gain Yi and get somebody to cover Baron or play alongside him. Somebody's got to be good enough to give Baron a breather.
I pretty much agree with custodianrules2. Monta Ellis is the deflector player on defense. He is one of the few players who can attack the rim on this team. If anything it seems as if Chris Mullin is always searching what's available. That is good. I just hope he doesn't do anything stupid (i.e. from the past hiring Mike Montgomery and the Foyle contract along with the Dunleavy and Murphy contracts). The only player I would trade Ellis for is an allstar such as KG. Trading Ellis to get position for Yi or Horford I say no to. But it's not my decision to make. So I guess we'll have to wait until tomorrow to see what happens with all of this.
