http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writ...ings/index.html Well this i just someones opinion but imo how is Colangelo ranked ahead of Paxson? I know Colangelo built the Suns but yet also a team that has not reached the finals and under achieved from last year. Diaw was very hyped up last year but now has underachieved this season in just about ever catagory. The team still doesnt play defense and if they dont figure out a way they never will. I know Colangelo is gone but still that has to be under consideration. Now that Colangelo went to the Raptors suprising in that same year he got the #1 pick and an all-star player on the team already. They are not only in a weak conference but in a weak division which means that they should win atleast 10 games in their division over every other team because they get to play 3 lottery teams 4 times each and to beat the Nets all you need is a solid post-player which they have a great one in Bosh and you have even more wins in that division. From what Paxson has done with the Bulls from having no all-stars on the team already ect and from Colangelo having an all-star and yet somehow managed to get a #1 pick in that off-season. Who would u say is better?
Colangelo is better then Pax IMO, but Joe Dumars above those two I can't see it. This guy has the top five down, just not in the right order. In my opinion it goes as; R.C. Buford, Bryan Colangelo, John Paxson, Donnie Nelson and then Joe Dumars. Those five are the top honors though, I don't think the others compare.
I think the main reason Colangelo was ranked above Paxson is because he's been a GM for a longer period of time. Paxson's done a remarkable job over the last 4 seasons, but we're talking about a 13 year career where BC's consistently made smart moves (aside from the disastrous Jason Kidd-Stephon Marbury trade). He should be ranked over Nelson and Dumars, IMO. They've all been GM's for a similar amount of time and the worst moves that Nelson (signing Dampier, LaFrentz) and Dumars (drafting Darko, letting Okur get away) have made are much worse than Paxson's worst (trading JR Smith?).
^ Haha, J.R. had no chance of staying, he's too lax on defense. Skiles would tear him apart. Anyways yeah I tend to agree with you two. B.C. and Buford are better than him, but I still think he should have won Exec of the Year in 04-05, especially since Sam Mitchell won this year, the things they did were extremely similar (taking a lottery team to go 47-35).
Colangelo is the best front office personnel in the league to me, he rebuilt the Phoenix Suns from scratch, and then turned the Raptors around in less than a year. I would put Paxson at number four, and drop the Mavericks guy a couple slots. I wouldn't put him over Joe Dumars because Joe has done something Paxson has yet to do which is build a championship team.

He made the Suns into legit title contenders, and got the Raptors their first Atlantic division title in the teams history, in less than a year in the front office. Although, he has not won a championship he has proven he can build a championship team (or at least a playoff contender), no matter where he goes.

The Raps also had Chris Bosh the year prior to Colangelo arriving, yet won 20 odd games and gave up 81 points to Kobe.
<div class="quote_poster">Blur Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">If they cannot afford it, how come they are rumored to trade Amare or Marion for KG who has a bigger contract?</div> Because all rumors are not true. Just that Kobe to Chicago rumors etc.... Just some bogus rumor so people can get all hyped up to watch the draft.

Regardless whether a deal gets done or not the simple fact that he has had talks with Minnesota about KG, shows the Suns are willing to add to the payroll if its going to improve the team.
question on colangelo, did he sign marbury to that 80 million dollar extension or was that someone b4 him. I would also definatly put dumars ahead of colangelo, like it was said he won a championship, took a team to the finals twice, conference finals 5 times. As for dumars, okay he drafted darko, but darko could have arguably been better if Larry Brown wasn't the coach, not that he would have been better than the other guys in that draft, but he took a risk and he built a team so good that he could take one. He had a sg, pg, and sf already so that excuses dwade, hinrich, and melo. Ideally he should have picked Bosh but not everyone is perfect. The Okur thing is silly to mention because the pistons simply couldn't afford him and they would not have been able to offer him the playing time the Jazz would. Okur was not going to stick on that team long term. Colangelo turned around the Suns but he got bailed out by isiah taking the marbury contract. I wouldn't put all the credit of the raptors on him, Bosh was already there and its been too soon to judge his big moves (TJ ford for Villanueava and drafting Bargnani)
