http://www.nba.com/draft2007/profiles/CarlLandry.html The Houston Rockets acquired 6-7, 245lb forward Carl Landry, #31 in the draft out of Purdue University (PU), from the Seattle SuperSonics in exchange for a future second round draft pick and cash considerations. I posted this trade in the Celtics forum. Do you guys think this is a fair trade for both sides? Boston is in need of a true PG now that they've traded Delonte West. http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/trad...=10~10~10~2~2~2 Houston Sends Rafer Alston Kirk Snyder John Lucas Boston Sends Gerald Green Sebastian Telfair Brian Scalabrine
I think the Celtics would do that trade only, because they seem to want to win now. With having Pierce and Allen at the 2 & 4, they still need a PG with West gone. Will it happen? I doubt it, but having Telfair and Green on our tream adds more Guards which I'm not to sure about. I would keep Snyder and try to trade away someone else instead..idk who though.
I am not sure the celtics would do it if they would why not. We sent away Alston and Lucas two point guards and send away a wing. In return we get a hometown boy Green who could be good and Telfair who needs new enviroment to straighten out his life.
Good to see the Rockets active in the draft. Second rounders might not ultimately work out but they're cheap and the risks are little. Landry's a good athletic forward, and he will be helpful in the frontcourt. Good player to have develop in the NBDL.

I liked what Rajan Rondo was doing for them last season, and his defense is very nice too.
Welll, I'm going to ignore my initial reaction and just sit on this one before making a decision. We'll see how things play out. I was one of the ones that hated the Shane battier trade initially.
I'm highly disappointed in everything this team did in the draft. If you guys haven't noticed, we have absolutley NOTHIN at the PF position. It would be nice to know that the organization understands this. Drafting a 5'11 pg and undersized PF isn't the direction i imagined we'd be going in. Hopefully we'll be active in the trade category.

You've been calling every move that the Rockets made in the JVG era a JVG move. Were these deals Rick Adelman moves? Does that change your perception of Adelman? I personally like the moves. No one would really expect guys picked this late in the draft to come in and contribute anyways, as no one who was available at the time was going to be a starter anyways. We got quicker and now have the MLE to spend in getting a good power forward.
I'm high on Landry I think he will be a solid player that will stay in the league for awhile. I was hoping he'd be available for the Magic at 44.

He also said that he was going to make a pf acquisition through free agency or trades. He also stated that they will take what they think is the best available regardless of position. Everyone, including me, was expecting a pf, despite what Morey said. I guess he really was true to his word.

He's just an average athlete overall. His strengths lie in being a scrappy, fundamentally sound player who absolutely dominates the glass. You may not get that out of his statistics, but 7.3 rpg is solid in the Big Ten. That's actually better than D.J. White and not much worse than Chuck Hayes' senior average of 7.7 rpg. That's all because you have to consider the slower tempo and shorter time span when you look at collegiate stats, especially with players from the Big Ten. He's actually taller than 6'7" too. For some reason, Purdue listed him shorter than he actually was, but at the Predraft Combine he measured in a legit 6'8.5", so even though he's on the shorter side, he's not too short to compete in the NBA. He actually reminds me a lot of another 6'9" forward in Lawrence Roberts. After this trade, I don't think the Rockets had that bad of a draft. Maybe you guys would look at it differently if Landry had been your first round pick and then you had traded for Brooks in the second, but I don't think Brooks would have lasted that long, so the Rockets made the right move in taking him that early. If Landry was the top power forward on their list at that point, and they thought they could trade into the second round to get him, then why not just take the top overall player on your list in the first? I'm not saying I would have taken the same players, but I can understand their logic.
Thanks for the insight VC. I wasn't really familiar with this guy but I've read up on him the past few days and he seems like he might be able to contribute right away even. If he can give us what Chuck Hayes does for us on defense and provide more offense, he might become a big steal.

I like this pick as well, he seems like a guy that'll do the intangibles, and personally I think the more of those players we have the better. He's not our answer at the PF, but no one at 26, 31, or 54 will ever have been one for us, I don't get the hard feelings. Landry, to me, looks like Chuck Hayes that will dunk the ball when near the basket, which is something Hayes does not do. And he does look a bit quicker laterally, and that is a definite plus. Maybe he doesn't have the IQ of Chuck, but he has HIGH ENERGY. And that is solid with the "newer system." EDIT: As for that trade, I think Gerald Green will be an excellent player in the league, I don't see how the Celts bite on that trade at all.
Saying he is the fifth most athletic PF in the draft really is not saying much since Tiago Splitter, Sean Williams and Yi Jianlian did not show up for the tests. They list Joakim Noah as a center. With those facts the people infront of him would be AL Horford, Brandon Wright, Josh Mcroberts, Jason Smith. Well at least he is more athletic than Fazekas and Baby Davis. Other than my critique of him i think he would be great addition to us he will be able to gobble up rebounds something we need beside yao ming.
