The Crittenton pick was good. He was simply the best player in the draft with the most experience playing the triangle.

Then we took Sun Yue. Who? Are you telling me we passed up on both the best player AND the best defender in Byers for Sun Yue? This kid is a twig. You'd be kidding yourself if you think he can contribute anytime soon.

Then we picked Gasol. Sorry, this kid has no work ethic. He's also a poor defender. Hm, I suppose he'll fit in well on a team full of poor defenders with no work ethic. Good one, Mitch! This pick was at least more justifiable than #40, though, because Gasol was the best player on the board then. Still, I would've gone in another direction.

Honestly, if I'm Kobe and my team makes these three picks, that's just another indication that they're not willing to win NOW. Just terrible.

No but there was a Byars!

Ugh, whatever. Kobe won't be traded, but he won't sit out. I'm expecting him to play somewhat selfish, but whatever, right...he's here to entertain. I expect some amazing stats and performances by him.

Let see if Kobe can put another record this next year. Could he break 81 points. I hope he gets to score more than 81 maybe 100?

    I read that too.

I also read that Mitch doesn't expect Sun Yue to play for the Lakers this year because of his commitment in China.

So basically it's like a Manu Ginobli situation with the Spurs back then. Hopefully when Sun Yue is able to play for the Lakers, he'd live up to that hype.

I'm still going to give Sun Yue the benefit of the doubt. He seems to be a WIP, but his potential is what intrigues me. What amazes me more, though, is the fact that how much the kid was hyped up, yet he fell so low on the draft board. It can be looked at as a steal from a certain point of view. Of course Chinese basketball isn't anything like the NBA, so he could just be a flop.

Or it could be like a Fran Vasquez situation. [IMG]

    Wouldn't be as bad, though.

    Oh, and btw:

Dude who made this post: While I agree with you that Mitch is a horrible GM, what did you expect him to do? Any player he drafted was going to be a project, only the top 5 picks (if that) are every considered sure fire IMPACT players. Unless they had traded all three of their picks for a higher one nothing substantially different would have happened.

There's a wide gulf between immediate impact players and projects. We got ultimate projects last night. A guy like Byars is older, more experienced, and more NBA-ready than both Gasol and Yue. He falls in that gulf. As does Chris Richard. As does Aaron Gray. As do many others if you look at who was available.

The Chinese Magic? That is disrespect beyond believe. The guy plays against pansy competition in the motherland, and he's Magic Johnson. Yeah, I'm calling him a one and done. One year in the league and he'll pretty much disappear.

You overreact to everything man. Let things play out. I know he won't be anywhere close to Magic, but saying he's 1 and done before ever seeing him play is ridiculous. Stop overexaggerating everything!

btw, to the guy that says Chris Richard is NBA ready. He isn't. He's basically as ready as a 19 year old project.

IIRC, his team got banned from the Chinese basketball league, or they dropped out. He was playing against piss poor talent over there.

I bet you're one of those fans that get on bandwagon when he is a success in the league. Such as an example if he misses the 3pter you'll be the one screaming he is bum ...and if he makes you'll probably will be like, I knew it all the way. He will be the next great thing...I told you so.

I've never seen the kid play, so I'll hold judgement, but passing up on Byars that late hurts a bit ... The guy can defend and shoot the three ... seems like something we that would be helpful

Yes! I think we're all set guys! This was the best draft ever! I don't think we even need Garnett. All we got to do is sign The Papa (Papaloukas) and it's off to the NBA Finals.

    We'll have...

    - The Papa who is the Euro Jason Kidd
    - Sun Yue who is the Chinese Magic Johnson
    - Kobe Bryant who is the 2nd coming of Michael Jordan
    - Marc Gasol who is a poor man's Pau Gasol who is a poor man's Tim Duncan
    - Andrew Bynum who is the 2nd coming of Kareem Abdul Jabbar

So technically... our 2007-2008 starting line-up will look like this:

    PG: Jason Kidd
    SG: Michael Jordan
    SF: Magic Johnson
    PF: Tim Duncan
    C: Kareem Abdul Jabbar

    Damn Gina!

    Can you say 82 wins?

Break out the champagne bottle guys! It's time for a parade!

I see more of a 81-1 season. They don't want their players getting tired on the way to playing the 8th seed.

Right, and you'd know that because you're such an expert on international basketball and have seen two hundred Chinese Basketball Association games.

Maybe you should check out a video of Sun before you bash him for what others are calling him?
