<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">“The Las Vegas Summer League is an important part of the development and maturation of our younger players," said Grunfeld. "We are excited to see our younger players have an opportunity to play in a very competitive environment. This will mark our third consecutive summer participating in the Las Vegas Summer League, and we look forward to joining the 21 other teams for an exciting two weeks of basketball."

Additionally, for the first time ever, Comcast SportsNet will broadcast all five of the Wizards’ summer league contests in primetime.

“As a long-standing partner of the Washington Wizards, Comcast SportsNet is delighted to add this original game programming to its lineup, featuring one of the most exciting teams in the NBA,” said Rebecca Schulte, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic. “These five games will give our viewers the first look at many of the Wizards top prospects, including the team’s most recent draft picks. As the region’s leader in local sports television, we are always looking for new ways to bring sports fans unique perspectives on their favorite teams and players."</div>

    Humphrey accepts invite from Wizards

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">After going through two rounds undrafted, former Florida guard Lee Humphrey will attempt to latch on as a free agent with the Washington Wizards.

"He leaves for Washington on Sunday," Humphrey's father, Tony, said. "He'll be there all next week and then he'll be with them for summer league (in Las Vegas)."

Humphrey and his agent, Kenny Grant, picked Washington out of invitations from eight different teams.

"He (Grant) advised us that Washington presented the best opportunity," Tony said. "Lee is excited about it."

Humphrey, the all-time NCAA Tournament 3-point leader with 46, returned from a workout in Cleveland in time to watch the last 10 picks with his family in Maryville, Tenn.

The 6-foot-2 Humphrey was considered a long shot to get drafted despite the fact that he finished as Florida's all-time leader in 3-pointers with 288.

"If he was going to get picked, he was probably going to go during that time," Tony said. "But he was in good spirits even though he didn't get picked. He called all the other guys and congratulated them."

During the hectic return, Tony said Lee lost his cell phone in the Detroit airport, where he was waiting for a connection to Knoxville.

"We've tried to call it, but he doesn't think he's going to get it back," Tony said. "All of his contact numbers are in there."</div>

Wizards Send Caleb Green an Invite

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Oral Roberts University star forward Caleb Green was philosophical about not being chosen in Thursday's National Basketball Association draft.

"You could make a case for about 100 guys, but there are only 60 picks (in two rounds) and everybody can't be picked," he said.

But Green said he received offers late Thursday night from the Dallas Mavericks, Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards to play for their summer league teams -- his probable next step in trying to make an NBA roster.

"The journey is far from over. I have three offers on the table, so I'll have (a few) chances. And I could play for more than one team because there are three summer leagues," he said.

"At the end of the day, I'm no different than (drafted players), except that they got to hear their name called on draft night, which I'm sure is an awesome feeling"

Green said he might be in better shape than players chosen near the bottom of the second round because as a free agent, he'll be able to hand-pick among summer teams to find the one where he is likely to receive the most playing time.</div>

This team shouldn't go winless like last summer's team.

Wizards dominate and Hawes get's killed inside.

Really though I'm pretty excited since the Raptors aren't in summer league so far either.

Dominic McGuire is showing lots of athleticism and the ability to finish plays. How the hell did he end up to 47 again?

Nick Young seems to be struggling a bit on the offensive end right now, with the exception of that great move to the basket. That's fine though, I'd rather have players right now get rid of the jitters and misques and learn from them.

Pecherov's jumper looks convincing to make a good role player off the bench.

Why aren't they though? Not enough young guys or something?

I really don't know, I mean the Raptors don't have any picks coming, but a team can always find guys to play for their summer league if they really want to. I mean there's still Pape Sow.

Anyways, Opec got unlucky running into Justin Williams, Opec was boxing out well, but Williams was just beating him to the ball. Now let me not get crazy here, he grabbed 5 rebounds in 21 minutes, so that's good. Nick Young struggled, but that's fine, in the NBA, he will be feeding off Arenas, Butler and Jamison, not creating his own offense, and he missed some open shots, so that's fine.

Opec does have ability to contribute now, but he'll have to be playing spot minutes at PF for now until he bulks up enough to play C. He put on 20 pounds, but is still only about 230 lbs right now.

Dominic is just sick, like I've already expressed, after I looked into him, I was real happy with the pick. The team has a tough defensive type swingman (in the JJ mold) who can finish inside, is athletic, and has good all round skills. I heard a lot about how he was supposed to be a first round pick, and if he had stayed one more year could've been a lottery guy or in that range even. I would've liked to see the Wizards guys play more, they were hardly there in the 4th. I think you give all three at least 30 minutes, let them get that court time. Nick Young played the most with 27 mins, and the two others played 24 and 21.

I'm watching the game again and looking at Nick Young, it looks like he needs more energy in his play. Quincy Douby is passing by everytime with a quick juke move and ending up with a lane to the basket. The Wizards are low on defense as it is already an we're counting on Nick that he'll be able to use his athletic ability to become a good defender for this team.

Pecherov needs to add some weight and muscle. I can see him becoming like an Antawn Jamison type of player that comes off the bench, but you can't rely on him getting that key rebound right now. It's also affecting his low post game right now which we're not seeing much of, but I don't see him with his back to the basket often if this is how he's going to play in this season. Jamison does good job breezing and gliding through the defense and Pecherov should look into that if he doesn't want to shoot 3's all day.

I really hope this isn't how Nick Young handles his composure during games. He needs to know that getting frustrated won't help his shots go in and that it's just going to hurt the team. I think it was more of jitters that held him back in this game and I can understand that, but there's still 4 more games left, he's going to be on the roster this year, he just needs to be patient and wait for the shot to sink in.

Oh man, there were a couple of guys that didn't deserve to even step out on the basketball court...they made Jarvis Hayes look good out there. Kevin Pickney was absolute crap out there taking ridiculous outside shoots which didn't even come close to making, had a hard time boxing out his man and getting the rebounds he should be getting. Then there was Lee Humphrey who doesn't even look like he's NBA material with his size. He's not going to be able to create his own shot being 6'2 and primarily an undersized shooter, he doesn't have the ballhandling skills to play the point, just overall, he's more a college player than an NBA player. Think of it like Byron Mouton.

Overall I was pretty happy with the summer league the Wizards had. Despite Young not finding range, he was still showed off his athletecism and proved that he can be an aggresive scorer in the NBA.

Dominic McGuire showed off how talented he is. I was surprised by his offensive ability while still being stunned by his heralded defense. Very good on the ball and help defender. I was very impressed with McGuire.

Oleksiy had a much better performance in this summer league. Last year he wasn't very impressive. This season, he showed off his range and rebounding abilities.

As for people I would like to invite to training camp: Aaron Miles, Mike Hall, and Kevinn Pinkney come to my mind. Although Pinkney had a weak summer league performance, he was impressive on the Celtics late last season.
