Hey ESPN is reporting that the Rockets are going after Amir Johnson. 6'11" Combo Forward from Detroit. A restricted free agent so we would need to cough up a little more dough so detroit does not match. He is very athletic, can really jump, run. Would be a great piece in a fast paced offence. What do you all think?
He's more like 6'9. He didn't get any PT in Detroit so its hard to imagine the consistant energy level he plays at. He's as athletic and long as they come. Some post moves and finishes with either hand way above the rim. Ugly looking shot...almost like S.Marion wouldn't be a bad pick up. I think Landry was the best pick in the draft, and they could give each other some good competition Rockets made Qualifying offer to C.Hayes friday.
He grew two inches while in detroit and i would definetly pay to get him because given consistent playing time he could produce and the worst senario is him becoming like stromile and stromile got alot more than what he will get. I also think the rockets should pick up Yaroslav Korolav russian. 6'9" 225 SF/PF Ok SHooter Ok Defender Ok driver and i believe Adlemen can get the most out of these two players with his style of offence even though they have yet to perform.
I think we're short changin ourselves with the PF position. We're trying to cut corners with a position that's too valuable. Amir Johnson? C'mon dude. We can't afford any experiments at this point. We're gonna need a pychsical, athletic and solid contributor at PowerFoward. I hope Adelman's able to get it together.
Right now in order to get what we want which is a good PF we have to take risks with young unproven talents. I mean Joe Smith has proven to be a descent role player at best who will only get worse. We could sign him along iwth johnson with our MLE. As you can see though Adlemen wants speed. Johnson has speed. Smith not so much. Everything Joe can do Amir can do but Amir is getting better when Smith is regressing. Signing Johnson would not short changin our selves infact we would do us more good for both the now and future. Looking too short sighted has already cost us enough we need to be concerned with both now and future and signing Amir would be a good start.
If the Rockets want to win NOW, then scrap this idea. Amir could get better, but it's a longnshot. We've akready taken chances with our current draft picks (Brooks especially) not to mention that Mike James is still not really our legitimate PG. Although under Adelman i guess a legit point isn't necessary.
