The kings signed Darryl Watkins to their summer league team. Watkins, an unsigned FA from Syracuse ranked 21st among all centers per SI.com's ranking system with 8.4ppg, 7.4rbs and 3.4bpg. Not an outstanding offensive talent, he is a good shot blocker and plays well defensively. He doesnt appear to fit into the kings more up tempo style they appear to be trying to get back to, but may be a serviceable defensive player.
On talent alone, he's an NBA player and has NBA size, but in four years at Syracuse, I never once saw him show any heart. He's one of those guys who just wound up growing really tall but never had a passion for the sport. That's not something you can teach, especially at this stage in his career. You either love the game or you don't, and apparently he doesn't. He could be a good add as a conversational piece though. I can't tell you how many 'Cuse games I watched with my buddies where we spent a good half an hour with stupid "If I had his size..." speculations. Prediction: BTW - Nice to see you around, harb. I haven't seen you on the forums in ages.
Thanks, good to be back... work has been killin me for over a year now...ugh... but things are starting to get back to normal. If anything I think that the way Mussleman was axed, theus was hired and the picks that Petrie is making right now show that the Maloof's days of tinkering and butting their noses in where they dont really belong are over. The kings look to be trying to get back to the faster paced defensive teams that got them to the WCF's and its the kind of team that Petrie is good at putting together.
