I was really hoping the Raptors got Gerald Wallace instead of Kapono. Great defender, slasher etc etc.

I laughed when I first saw this thread... I thought it was just a really bad joke. Then I started seeing an actual serious dicussion forming and I'm still in disbelief. Jason Kapono? Colangelo can do better than that, especially for THAT kind of money. You gotta be friggin' kidding me with this signing.

Have to echo everyone else who is wondering what the hell we are doing.

Was it Colangelo's plans to single handedly drive up the market prices for FA's this year? Clearly Kapono can be a double team buster when we're throwing it into bosh but this contract is insanity. We probably could have resigned Calderon with that money. **sigh**

Wow, did not see this coming. I'v seen him, he is a good shooter, but with 4 years 24 mill, maybe Gerald Wallace would of signed. Well as long as he can shot when he is on the floor, I'll be happy.

There is no way Wallace will sign for 6 million. I'm betting he will get at least 9 to 10 million per.

I believe they are quoted as saying "in excess of 20 million" so that can mean anything.

Whatever happened to Grant Hill? With Orlando signing Rashard Lewis, Hill is pretty much a goner. Why would Colangelo needed to have jumped the gun only 2 days after free agency began? Confusing move to say the least...

I think Colangelo's other options this free agency were becoming slim. Golden State traded Jason Richardson, so they are more likely to re-sign him. Grant Hill has apparently set his sights on signing with Phoenix for much less than Toronto was offering.

I like Kapono's fit with this team, but not as a starter. And this is starter money. I want to wait until the deal becomes official, because I've seen different reports and this might include incentives as well. But right now, this deal is AJ Burnett-esque.

If he can score about 12 per or 15 per, I'll be happy. He needs to improve his defense, but this money makes me think. I though this would be better for Pietrus, but Kapono isn't bad. It seems like every player can fit our system of do what is comfortable, and play it out.

We should put together a package to trade for Kevin Garnett. That would balance it out a little more.

Well one thing's for sure, you gotta play smart to play for Pat Riley, and thats one thing Kapono's done.

What possible package could you put for KG without including Bosh or Ford?

Hey who said Ford can't be involved? IMO the only untouchable on this team is Bosh and possibly Bargnani (but even him I'd trade for Garnett if the opportunity came along). Not saying its likely but a possible package could be

Rasho (need a big contract) + Calderon (Minny needs a PG) + Bargnani (young talent) + Graham

    Our team for '08:

    PG: Ford/Ukic?
    SG: Parker/Delfino
    SF: Kapono/Garbajosa
    PF: Garnett/Humphries
    C: Bosh/Sow

I just thought a lot of people liked Ford. I don't see Toronto trading away TJ. Trading Calderon could work. I think that Minny has received better offers than that for KG though. If that trade did go down, Toronto would be even scarier. Garnett and Bosh is just insane.

With Darko now being a UFA, maybe Colangelo will be a little dissapointed that we gave Kapono a contract so quickly. We could offer Darko the same type of contract, and he's the type of big man that fits well with us. He gives more shot blocking than Rasho, can defend man to man, and while he's not a shooter, he's athletic and can run the floor with the team and score on offense decently.

...but that doesn't mean we would get him, it's just interesting.

Nah man, the whole point of trading for KG is to even out the skin colour of this team. The package I'd put together would include Andrea Bargnani, Jose Calderon, half of Anthony Parker, Rasho Nesterovic, and next year's 1st rounder (which they could use to draft someone like Chase Budinger).

Is there any way we could back out? Like pull a reverse John Salmons or something? I have buyer's remorse.
