<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Jazz will announce in a press conference this afternoon that guard Derek Fisher is leaving the team, The Salt Lake Tribune has learned.
It is not clear if Fisher is retiring or if he's asking the Jazz to release him from his contract, possibly to play for another team.
If he were to walk away from his contract with Utah, Fisher would forego almost $21 million in salary, which was due to be paid to him over the next three seasons.
Fisher, who recently completed his 10th year in the NBA, led an inexperienced Jazz playoff team to the Western Conference Finals, where Utah lost to the finals champion San Antonio Spurs.
Fisher averaged just under 10 points a game through the playoffs, but it was an emotional run, after he disclosed that his daughter had been diagnosed with eye cancer midway through the conference semifinals.
Fisher was picked 24th by the Lakers in the 1996 NBA Draft, and spent his first eight seasons in Los Angeles, before being traded to Golden State. He was acquired by the Jazz in a trade on July 12, 2006. </div>

Why do you think he's leaving? Dude, we can't sign everyone that is a Free agent. Fisher, more than likely, is leaving 21 million on the table to be with his daughter who is fighting eye cancer. He's not leaving because he's bored of Utah.

Utah's future is much, much brighter than this pathetic team that we throw out there.

My best wishes to Derek and his family.

BTW, If I am wrong and he is leaving to go play with another team...then I will apologize to you.

I hope that he's daughter gets well soon cause it's sad that she's fighting eye cancer. D-Fish is a great PG.

He might return to LA if circumstances improve.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Derek Fisher has been released from his contract with the Utah Jazz to focus on finding medical care for his infant daughter, who has a rare form of cancer in one of her eyes.

Fisher, who will be 33 next month, has considered half a dozen cities, including Los Angeles, as possible places to move. He did not rule out retiring.

He had three years and about $21 million left on his contract, but his daughter, Tatum, had been occupying most of his thoughts. She was diagnosed this year with a cancerous tumor that could spread from her left eye to her brain or the rest of her body.

"Life for me outweighs the game of basketball," Fisher said Monday in Salt Lake City.

Fisher spent eight seasons with the Lakers after being drafted in 1996. He left as a free agent in 2004 and was traded from Golden State to Utah before last season, when he averaged 10.1 points and 3.3 assists.

The Lakers are seeking a veteran ballhandling guard and could offer him up to approximately $5 million for next season, if he chooses not to retire.

"We're going to have an open mind," said Fisher's agent, Mark Bartelstein. "It's certainly something we'd look at, but I think we have to take some time to digest everything that's happened."</div>

I actually prefer DFish over Blake.

DFish has always been a classy guy. Tenacious player who always plays with his heart. Plus he's already have 5 years of Triangle experience, not to mention playoff experience.

Derek is a classy guy and right now all his attention should be and is focused on his daughter. Best wishes to their family. It's unfortunate something like this has to happen to such a great guy.

If anywhere, he'll go to NY. The doctor that he trusts is based in NY. I really don't see him coming back to L.A.

NY is probably where he is going to go play.
