This article discusses what the Kings could do this offseason and here was an interesting couple of paragraphs. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">According to a league source, the Kings recently contacted Orlando about Hedo Turkoglu. The small forward, entering his eighth season, began his career in Sacramento in 2000 and was part of a three-team trade in 2003 that sent him to San Antonio. The source would not go on record for fear of repercussion. The most likely King to be offered in a deal would be small forward Ron Artest, whose $7.8 million salary for the 2007-08 campaign is close enough to Turkoglu's $6.3 million salary to fall within the parameters of the collective bargaining agreement. Turkoglu has two seasons remaining on his contract and a player option for a third, while Artest has two seasons left on his deal but holds an early termination option for next summer. Kings basketball president Geoff Petrie did not return a call seeking comment.</div> Source: Sacramento Bee
Hmm.. I don't know what to think of this. Just Hedo for Artest straight up? Would Rashard play the 2 and Artest play the 3? I'm not sure how it would work out, Otis Smith has said he doesn't want any "troubled" players.
I think it would be like this: PG - Nelson SG - Artest SF - Lewis PF-???/Possibly Darko/Lewis C - Howard Looks good to me, and Howard has a good backcourt and a good frontcourt. I would do it.
I'd do it IF we don't need to trade Hedo's contract to get more cap space to resign Darko. We need to minimize cap space and Hedo is one of the players that are getting shopped. If we keep Hedo and get enough cap space to go after Darko or some other big, then I wouldn't be too opposed to doing this trade. Getting Artest would be relatively low risk on his contract with 2 years left on his contract for just over 16 mil(and a player option that he might take after this year). Getting him is always a high risk because who knows if or when he will go crazy again. Maybe putting him around high quality guys like Shard/Dwight/Jameer will keep him under wraps. I can't see the Magic organization making this move though, just because we never sign bad character players.
As much as id hate seein Hedo part ways it'd be a good trade. Thered be some risks of course, but all trades have risks. I mean why not have Artest come in here, maybe teach Trevor Ariza some moves while hes here. then when he retires, exit Artest....enter Trevor Ariza. Oh and along the lines of everyone freakin out who plays PF and all. Don't worry about it, Jeff Van Gundy will find a way for that to work. I mean in the nba you dont have to do your traditional 1-2-2 format offense anymore. With 2 big dudes down low. ESPECIALLY in the small east. Getting Lewis and Artest could spread the floor out leaving Jameer and Dwight with plenty of options.
How about this???? New York really wants Ron Artest. How about this 3 team trade? New York trades: David Lee/filler New York recieves: Ron Artest ----------- Orlando trades: Hedo Turkoglu Orlando recieves: David Lee/filler ----------- Sacramento trades: Ron Artest Sacramento recieves: Hedo Turkoglu It benefits all teams. David Lee is in a logjam at the PF position, so you basically trade Lee(who is now expendable) and a semi-bad contract for the defensive prowess of Ron Artest to start right away. The Magic have been looking to shop Hedo Turkoglu around to free up a little cap space. If the Magic don't want to resign Darko, they can get David Lee who is a capable PF to come right in and start alongside Dwight. Magic run on class, so they won't want to get Artest. The Kings get what they were interested in anyway Hedo for Artest. I get to subtract the Knicks from my favorite team list and get one of my favorite players on the Magic. Win/win for everyone involved.

That'd be a good backup plan if we cant get darko. Hey gatorsown. what ever happened to Matt Walsh? like seriously...

Seriously though, I think he might be playing over in Europe or something. I never liked Walsh anyway.

If we can get Lee, then so long Darko! Seriously, I'd love to have David Lee on the team. David Lee is a way better rebounder than Darko at this point, but I'd miss Darko's shot blocking.
Artest is a cancer anywhere he goes i wouldn't want him but he does bring defense. Lee will be great in Orlando this is the kind of PF the Magic need. And for the Knicks they could have Artest.
I'd rather keep Hedo than go for Artest. His character alone is what turns me off. Another example of a great player, but a bad person.

So what the guy has an attitude?? I don't care. Solid offensive player and great defender. All around good player, just not good person. Rent him for one year and we could be golden.

Which is why David Lee would be the perfect pickup.

I don't know why you thought of it. If that trade were to happen, I would be jumping for joy.

Artest will be a starter and an instant impact player, while David Lee is slowly getting buried on the bench. Hell Balkman won't even play, so I can see them dealing David Lee for a guy like Ron Artest who will make an impact.

Artest will start but him and Nate. That's just too gangsta.
Ron Artest needs veteran players around him to keep his head screwed on straight and smack him silly when he does something stupid. I don't think the Magic have that kind of player.
Update. Orlando Targeting Artest Now? <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Rashard Lewis, soon to be the newest member of the Orlando Magic , is a 6-foot-10 small forward who likes to shoot from the corners and doesn't necessarily specialize in defense. Hedo Turkoglu, a member of the Magic the past three seasons, is a 6-foot-10 small forward who likes to shoot from the corners and doesn't necessarily specialize in defense. With Lewis just days away from signing a five-year, $75 million free agent deal with the Magic, Turkoglu could very well be the odd man out on the Magic's roster. And apparently Orlando has already looked into trading the mild-mannered Turkoglu for a drastically different sort of player. The Sacramento Bee, quoting an unnamed source, reported Wednesday that the Magic have inquired about the availability of volatile forward Ron Artest. The proposed deal would reunite Turkoglu with the Kings, the franchise he played with for the first three years of his career, and would send Artest back East to give Orlando a much-needed attitude adjustment. Magic general manager Otis Smith repeatedly lamented the Magic's lack of a killer instinct last season, saying that his team "liked each other way too much," and didn't always hold each other accountable because of their mostly mild-mannered players. The gritty Artest, of course, could dramatically alter that mindset. The 2004 Defensive Player of the Year and three-time All-Defense selection would bring an aspect of toughness that was missing last season when the Magic struggled to a 40-42 record and were swept out of the playoffs by Detroit. Because Artest is set to make $7.8 million and Turkoglu is due $6.3 million, the trade could be made straight up and would fall within the parameters of the NBA's Collective Bargaining Agreement. Artest's agent, Mark Stevens, said his client, a New York native, would welcome a move back to the Eastern Conference. "You hear trade rumors all the time, so you just have to let them play out," Stevens said. "It would be good for Ron to get back to the East, not just Orlando in particular. Coming back East would be something that Ron would really like." The New York Knicks are also reportedly interested in trading for Artest, 27.</div> Source: Florida Today
