<div class="quote_poster">CLos Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">He's probably all talk. I see him talking that garbage until they figure that they can go to either Memphis which is not a good team or Orlando which is starting to do big things. I don't see Darko going anywhere else to be honest with you. They're just trying to make the most money but at the end Darko will have to settle for less and prove that he's worth $10 mil.</div> I just looked at Memphis's cap numbers and they probably will only have $8 mil in cap. If Chicago renounces Nocioni's rights they will also have enough money to go after Darko. btw, Memphis is a good team. They'll probably make the playoffs again this season. Pau Gasol getting hurt screwed them at the beginning and they realized they were too far away to make a run, so they went after Durant/Oden. Miller/Gasol/Gay is going to be a good trio and if they get Darko they would have a very good lineup of Conley or Lowry/Miller/Gay/Darko/Gasol. I agree though, I think the Magic will have the most to offer Darko when it's all said and done and it just depends on whether Cornstein would rather give up more money to not play for Otis.

What an ass. Yeah Memphis is good but Orlando does have an upside as well. I know that Gasol getting hurt ruined their chances but aren't they shopping Mike Miller? Lowry is very underrated and is good also. I don't know why Darko would be stupid not to take a reasonable offer. I don't see Chicago getting Darko but could be a possibility. They need a low post offensive player. They have a bunch of defensive guys. Ben Wallace, Tyrus Thomas, Joakim not drafted. Thomas is solid but still.
So are the Magic the only team in the league that can offer him the most money? Because id imagine Memphis is still goin strong at Nocioni and or Varejo.
Overreaction by a pathetic agent. What a turd monkey. He won't be seeing any offers better than what the Magic are giving him, so he's basically pulling off a Bonzi Wells.
I just remebered something really really important. Darko probably won't go to Memphis because Pau Gasol HATES him. About a month ago Darko said in a Serbian interview that Gasol was soft. He was really tearing the guy apart and it was all over RealGM and those types of sites. Pau and Darko don't have a good relationship and if Gasol is giving his input to Jerry West in Memphis, I'm sure he won't have many positive things to say about Darko. Just something I remembered and it could increase our odds at resigning him.
Not to mention Varejeao and Nocioni are the 2 names that are linked to Memphis right now and seem to be ahead of Darko. Supposedly they have already given AV a pretty good offer for over the MLE, which would take them out of the running for Darko and they visited Nocioni overseas. Bulls have offered Nocioni a $38 mil deal that starts at 6.3 mil a year. So if he accepts that and Memphis gets AV, that would basically leave Orlando as the only team that will offer Darko over the MLE. We'll see how much money actually means to Darko's agent. Magic still have his bird rights, so we can offer over the salary cap to get him and we have a higher percent in salary increases then any other team can offer. So worst case scenario, IMO is that we do a sign and trade for them or Darko gets screwed and takes the MLE.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Otis Smith says Magic still want Darko Milicic back Brian Schmitz | Sentinel Staff Writer 4:17 PM EDT, July 5, 2007 Orlando Magic General Manager Otis Smith said Thursday that despite the hard feelings expressed by Darko Milicic's agent, the Magic still would like to work a deal to bring back Milicic. "Yes, sure," Smith said. "I've said it all along. We like Darko. I'd like to think the deal could work out for both sides." After the Magic withdrew a qualifying offer to Milicic on Tuesday, rendering him an unresticted free agent, Marc Cornstein, Milicic's agent, blasted Smith for his handling of his client's free agency. He said Milicic never would play for the Magic again "as long as Otis Smith was general manager." Smith said he still was trying to work a sign-and-trade deal for Rashard Lewis with the Seattle SuperSonics to create enough salary-cap room to sign Milicic, who played the past 1-1/2 seasons with the Magic. Orlando would send a player or two to the Sonics in the Lewis' deal, but it is a long shot, considering the deal should be done before the Magic officially sign Lewis next week. The Magic also could trade another player to another team to create cap room to sign Milicic. The Magic still own the Bird rights to Milicic, meaning they can sign him to more years and for more money than any team. Smith said he left a message for Cornstein to call him since the agent ripped him in a Sentinel story on Tuesday.</div> Source: Orlando Sentinel

He knows that Darko can't really go elsewhere and he's buying time to look like an asshole. He's coming back and we will sign him for the MLE.

If we were to sign Darko, it would probably be a deal starting around $8 million after the sign and trade for Lewis is completed.
Another thing to note is that we have his bird rights, so we could realistically get enough cap to go after Gerald Wallace and then sign Darko to what he wants over the cap. I know it's a pipedream, but how much of a genius would Otis Smith be if he nailed Shard, Gerald Wallace, and Darko in the same offseason? PG-Jameer Nelson SG-Gerald Wallace SF-Rashard Lewis PF-Darko Milcic C-Dwight Howard is an eastern conference contender and in 2-3 years could be a championship contender(when Dwight/Darko grows). I'm obviously not going to get my hopes up that it happens, because well we are the Magic and bad things always come our way, but damn I can't help but think about it.

Don't want to think about our cap issues, though. Oh, and the word you're looking for Gators is, "we are the Orlando Tragic after all."

If we get 3 solid players in the offseason, forget about our cap issues. You are looking at a solid 1-3 seed in the East.

He was supposed to come to Orlando to visit right after Shard, not too sure if he ended up coming or not. Otis Smith hasn't really mentioned anything about Wallace either. Hopefully Wallace came and Otis told him to keep it quiet that we were going to sign him if we got the S&T done. (not likely though) I would think an offseason getting Shard and Darko would be an amazingly successful one. Oh and Tragic is a bad term. It means 2. extremely mournful, melancholy, or pathetic: a tragic plight. 3. dreadful, calamitous, disastrous, or fatal: a tragic event Which pretty much sums up our management. Then consider that it rhymes with Magic it's a perfect nickname.
HA! So let me get this straight. The Magic offered Darko a contract. His agent said Nah we're going to look around and see if there's anything better out there. Mean while the magic are supposed to to sit there and be held hostage while this joke of a player and agent try and trick another team into signing him? Sorry but they have nobody to blame but themselves Otis made a qualifing offer which if I remember correctly was in the 7-8 million dollar range, but these morons thought he was worth 10 mil a year? Whoops! Looks like nobody wants you Darko. GM's are not fooled any more. Just because you're tall and young doesn't mean you're a good player.
