<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Could Bulls forward Andres Nocioni be on his way to Memphis in a trade for Pau Gasol? A league source suggested any talks between the Bulls and Grizzlies are in the preliminary stages. But Memphis general manager Chris Wallace flew to Argentina in recent days to meet with Nocioni, sources confirmed. One theory is the Bulls would be willing to send Nocioni, first-round draft pick Joakim Noah, backup point guard Chris Duhon and filler to the Grizzlies in exchange for the 7-foot Gasol, who averaged 20.8 points and 9.8 rebounds last season. Nocioni is a restricted free agent, which means the Bulls can match any offer the third-year forward receives. Bulls general manager John Paxson stated emphatically Monday that he’ll match any offer sheet for Nocioni. But it’s possible Paxson’s message was another way of saying any team that wants Nocioni will have to negotiate a trade. The Bulls have great appreciation for Nocioni’s talent and toughness, but his role on the team seems to be limited to either playing power forward at 6-feet-7 or backing up small forward Luol Deng. The Akron (Ohio) Beacon-Journal reported Tuesday that an unknown team, most likely Memphis, has offered Cavaliers restricted free-agent forward Anderson Varejao a contract in excess of the midlevel exception. Such news would support speculation that the Grizzlies are ready to revamp their front line without Gasol’s hefty contract, which runs four more years at a total of $63 million. The Bulls and Grizzlies discussed a Gasol deal before the February trade deadline, but talks fizzled mostly because the Bulls refused to include Deng. Besides chasing Gasol this summer, the Bulls figure to make a similar, but more lucrative, offer to Minnesota for Kevin Garnett, who was mentioned in numerous trade rumors prior to the NBA draft. The Bulls are also interested in acquiring the rights to Spanish league power forward Luis Scola from San Antonio. Nocioni is not likely to be involved in a trade to the Spurs. The Bulls may offer Duhon if he is not included in a larger deal. In the meantime, the Bulls will open a four-day mini-camp Thursday night at the Berto Center in preparation for the Orlando and Salt Lake City summer leagues. The summer roster features veterans Tyrus Thomas, Thabo Sefolosha, Andre Barrett and Martynas Andriuskevicius, along with second-round draft picks Aaron Gray and JamesOn Curry. Noah will not play in the summer leagues due to a shoulder injury. The Bulls invited some local prospects to the camp, including former DePaul forward Lance Williams, ex-UIC forward Richard Lesko and Chicago natives Keith Gayden (Duquesne) and Boo Davis (Wisconsin-Milwaukee). Gayden played in the spring for the Elgin Racers of the International Basketball League.</div> LINK: <a href="http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/story.asp?id=328635" target="_blank">http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/story.asp?id=328635</a>
I like this trade for both ball clubs. This deal makes the Bulls a contender, and gives the Grizzlies solid, young pieces that can make the team better in the future. Grizzlies are in a rebuilding state (have been for a LONG time), and these may be key pieces for their future. Bulls are already contenders, and w/ Pau they can almost secure a spot in the NBA Finals.
I can see this deal being done. 1. Memphis was very high on Joakim Noah and considered drafting him at #4. 2. Not sure what Memphis ends up doing with Nocioni, but he would bring some defensive toughness to their squad and has the skillset needed for Iavoroni's offense. 3. Chris Duhon is a filler with an expiring contract. I think Chicago is clearly getting the better end of this deal by landing Gasol. I t would suggest the Grizzlies are going to move in another direction and continue rebuilding with their athletic forwards. I would expect Memphis to get more for Gasol, but some other teams who were interested in him have already committed to other deals. Maybe Memphis has an inside track on Darko as well to supplant Gasol.
I would like this trade if it were to happen. It gives Chicago that one thing they were missing, and that was a post scorer. It also gives us a great starting lineup, possibly even the best in the East. Hinrich Gordon Deng Gasol Wallace Very formidable starting lineup in my opinion.
Unless the "filler" is Deng, this trade is a huge rip-off for the Grizzlies. With Gay and Conley, Jr. already at the three and one respectively, the additions of Nocioni and Duhon don't mean anything, so the trade eventually boils down to Noah for Gasol. This is a bigger pipe dream than all the Laker trade scenarios where they think they can get your best player with a combination of their role players. Fact of the matter is that Gasol's one of the ten best big men in the NBA, he's only 26, and he's worth a hell of a lot more than that crummy package. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">1. They're likely going to sign James Posey, and besides, if they were looking to beef up their defense, then why trade Shane Battier for Rudy Gay? Fact of the matter is that Nocioni wouldn't even start. 3. Duhon would be burried behind Conley, Jr., Lowry, and Stoudamire, and the Grizzlies don't need cap relief. Pretty much no one in the NBA has more cap at the moment.

I would do this trade in a second. I doubt it happens though, Paxson isn't the type of general manager to pull off a major trade like that.
I tihnk Paxson would pull of this trade if Memphis were willing. It is obvious that Chicago is getting the better end of it, just like Voodoo explained.
heard memphis really likes noicini... so thats why they want this deal chicago needs to throw in at least a 2nd rounder to fair this out
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Bulls general manager John Paxson said he has had no recent talks with the Grizzlies concerning a trade for Pau Gasol. A newspaper report Wednesday suggested such talk was at ''the preliminary stages,'' which Paxson flatly denied. ''I have not had one conversation concerning Gasol,'' said Paxson, who called the story -- which floated a deal of Andres Nocioni, Joakim Noah, Chris Duhon and other considerations for the 7-foot Grizzlies forward -- ''a complete fabrication.'' The Grizzlies, who offered Gasol to the Bulls before the trade deadline last season, are very interested in Nocioni. General manager Chris Wallace flew to Argentina to make a personal pitch to the restricted free agent. Paxson has said his desire is to re-sign Nocioni and has vowed to match any offer sheet he signs. Teams cannot sign free agents until next Wednesday, when the NBA sets the salary cap for next season, expected to be about $56million.</div> Source: Sun Times Time to stop dreamin. Anyway, I saw Noah's introduction press conference it would be cold and heartless for us to trade him after all the things he said.
wow, seems to good to be true. i was floating around the idea of a jermaine o'neal to chicago scenario couple of days ago, but gasol makes more sense. guys have comparable no.'s, but gasol is younger, more consistent and less injury prone. imo if this was the real deal, the grizzlies would be handing the bulls tickets to consecutive eastern conference finals.
Noah for Gasol is worse the Tractor Trailer for Dirk Nowiztki. If I were the Grizz, I wouldn't take this trade. Like Voodoo said, Conely and Gay, no need for Noch or Duhon, those guys are fillers. I say Trade Gasol and Miller for Gordon and Noah, Duhon, Noch and some future picks. Then both teams get something. Not Noah for Gasol.
I know this trade has been proven to be a frace, but still... <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I say Trade Gasol and Miller for Gordon and Noah, Duhon, Noch and some future picks. He's bigger, shoots at a higher clip, rebounds, and dishes the rock better. The only statistical area where he trails Gordon is ppg, but that's only by less three points. Everyone thinks that every player on the Grizzlies' roster is expendable, and that they're having a firesale at the moment, just because they tanked last season. If Pau Gasol weren't hurt the first half of the season though, this team never would have tanked and would have been in playoff contention from day one. Point is, all that secnario does is further tip the scales in Chicago's favor.
