Bogut is right. America is full of fashionist (sp?) pigs. I play ball all the time with dudes talking ****, getting all loud like they own ****, being all cocky. The difference when I throw it down with two hands is I'll just stop for 3 seconds and eyeball everyone and jot to the other end of the court. No matter if you scream and act badass, or you look someone down after punishing them, it's the same effect in the end. America just has too many big heads and billy bad asses around. Mainly due to the hip hop culture that comes off hard when only 5% really is.
<div class="quote_poster">SupraJames Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">1. I agree with Bogut. Amen brotha! 2. I really don't understand why people say he should "keep his mouth shut"? Are you serious? Newsflash dudes, we're in America, land of the FREE? Freedom of speech? 3. Rock4life, 95% of Hiphop nowadays are materialistic, blingblingy, pimpz & hoez, etc etc. It isn't the only representation of American culture, but I'd say Hiphop/Rap represent at least 65% of mainstream America today. Just wondering, why are you trying to defend mainstream hiphop? Anybody with an ounce of awareness could tell that hiphop nowadays promotes greed, fast cars, top of the line alcohol, partying, girls, etc etc. I think you just haven't been caught up for the past 10-20 years. Back in the 80s and early 90s they did make good hiphop music but those good old days are gone dude. Wake up.</div> The problem is BIGGER than just hiphop.. Bogut's probably right about american culture, but he's a hypocryte because he lives the same lifestyle. The lifestyle of fancy jewelry, luxury cars and women wasn't originated by mainstream hiphop. Even though rap music does have a materialistic side to it, is it responsible for something that's been around before it existed? No. You, along with others in here, have minimized the debate to just mainstream hiphop. In reality, the MEDIA has been promoting the same thing for YEARS in American culture, BEFORE hiphop existed. So don't blame hiphop, blame the corporate companies makin $$$ off of it. I'm going to be unpopular for this but it's the truth in American society. Rap and Hip Hop have screwed this and the last generation of kids. Acting all gangsta with guns and dope gunna pop somebudy give me a BREAK. I'm sick of the same hit songs coming out with the same stupid beat. They all sound just a like after a while. I grew up in the days of Snoop, Pac, BIG, DMC and all that and when they fell off that's when the music DIED. All you kids 13-17 or whatever thinking you're hip hop and listen to the stuff, wear loose clothes and have a I'm the shat attitude,... you might as well stop before a real one comes along and kills you for it. The music and fake reality its lyrics tell all these kids listening is truely sad. It was warped and ruined the way people used to just commune and get along without all the dubs and mean muggin'. I am not saying that music is the only cause, but it's a part of the bigger problem. This kiddy I'm a G don't F with me attitude on the court has got several ass whoopins' done in by me and too many people I know. It has got to stop. And it starts with the fake ass rap on the radio pretending to be hard. Nas grew up in sunny southern cali in a rich hood, busted WIDE open by Oprah months ago. He is just one example of the fake reality his music and padres are all about. Grow up listen to something with a guitar in it instead of killing somebody cause you're sooooo gangsta and coooool.
although he is correct, i think he needs to shut up didnt he say Kobe was stupid for not being able to play with Shaq? or something like that? i hope Kobe puts him in a poster for saying that.
<div class="quote_poster">Rock4life Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Which brings me back to the point that "Hiphop" is almost ALWAYZ used as an example.</div> But its justified in this case. He's using something that everyone's familiar with (how a lot of NBA player's identify with the materialistic side of hip hop) to make a point about the greedy aspect of American culture. He didn't make a statement about hip hop culture (he only spoke one sentence about it) and I still have no idea what you're making such a big deal about.

However, my younger cousins seem to enjoy it, but they also have an ear for the stuff I listened to. When they grow older, maybe they'll look back and say "what the hell was I listening to that for?"
I know we will get old and a new style of music will be the shat and all that. For technology being what it already is, and will be in the future I don't understand how you'll be able to still appreciate anything. If it is the way it is now what can I expect in 25 years? Seriously. They put locks and dams on rivers to control irrigation. I don't know where I'm going with that but aren't we smart enough to imply that to real life?
I skimmed through most of these posts and won't be saying anything new, but I don't have a problem with what Bogut is saying, I just don't agree with it. If a player is getting paid millions and wants to buy the jewelry, fast cars, fast women, then let him be. Most people don't get to indulge in such a lavish lifestyle, anyway. It's freedom of expression and in America, of all places, I think freedom of expression should be respected. Just how Bogut used his free speech to express himself, other NBA players use their cars, clothes, etc. to express themselves.

Do you tell people that say '50' or 'fitty' NO YOU mean 50 Cent! And trust me I know what era is what I was giving an example of older school. And we are not getting into a Pac discussion, the man was the MLK Jr of rap. It's more of a consensus not a generalization. I'm not saying rap and hip hop should be abolished like your sentiments imply. All music is a form of expression, but I only hear a little bit of death metal that comes close to the majority of crap rap produces. You notice in the last 7 years, even into the late 90s all these 'scene kids?' Emo acting, hardcore pretending youth who dress different and put piercings all over to be different? Not much difference. My point can be misted all over the music industry of how fake it's become and how the youth takes it in like skittles. You don't think music plays any role in how people act on the court? More like in life generally? I don't even have to rebuttle to that, that's pretty ignorant in itself. My point is the hip hop and rap culture has become so modernized and over-produced that the glossy studio edit is shining too bright to where people are inapt to comprehend what good music really is. It's too fashioned and misleading. It's not even music. It's just a message, of how badass I am and how you eat it up and we get rich for it attitude. It pours over everywhere. Music in itself is dead except for the underground. There is always something brewing there. I just hate the part of my America that lost touch with what music and message really is. All these kids with XBox and Bluetooth listening to Eminem thinking they know what's 'hard' is what's sad. But that's classic America, use then abuse, then throw away.

I'm not hear to justify mainstream hiphop. I'm just saying that some of you are isolating rap as the primary problem for today's youth. When in all actuality, it's the parents that aren't raising their children. Music is music. But you can't hold 50 Cent acountable for some kid goin on a tirade. Same for the NBA........
I don't quite understand him saying, "U.S. culture." The NBA culture can be closely affiliated with rap/hip hop, thus that greed factor with the flaunting can be tied to it, but not the U.S. culture as a whole. A good percentage of Basketball players have that greed/flaunting nature? Maybe. A good percentage of those who associate themselves with the hip hop genre? Possibly. A good percentage of Americans? No. I've lived in quite a few places, including New York, New Jersey, Louisiana, and several places in Florida. Was it always a matter of flaunting your money? No. I used to know this kid whose family was quite wealthy. They still dressed normally, they still had a normal car, they still were pretty "down to earth." They weren't materialistic. My uncle is quite wealthy, he doesn't flaunt his wealth. He gets quite a few things for the comfort of his family, but he doesn't spend it on "hoes, jewelry, and spinners." Maybe I'm missing something, but I feel that the comment towards U.S. culture as a whole was very ignorant of Andrew Bogut. It'd be like me generalizing that Australian culture consists of everyone being from the outback, liking to hunt for wild animals on Animal Planet or the Discovery Channel.
