Kobe gettin' dunked on at the Kobe Academy. Ouch.

Also, a nice little peek at a future Kobe Bryant vs OJ Mayo match-up.

OJ Mayo got him good with the facial, he elevated pretty quick, I don't think Kobe realized he could get that high up.

You know what bothered me was Kobe's words to the media. He was talking about "it's all about the next generation" and "I want to give back, I remember how it was for me back when I was coming up."

There over 400 kids who wanted to be there and Kobe took time out of his schedule to teach them and practice with them.

I'm wondering to myself, why doesn't he take the same approach with Andrew Bynum?

Is Bynum really working hard like some reports are coming out with? Seems like Kobe tried to take Bynum under his wing when they drafted him. I remember Kobe said he invited Bynum for 4am workouts with him to prepare for the season.

Maybe Bynum's lack of work ethic rubbed Kobe the wrong way and Kobe hasn't gotten over it yet. I'm sure Kobe's expectations were very high early on for Bynum, and he expected him to have the same drive and hunger he had coming into the league.

I think the Lakers front office (if it's not too, late) need to find players with this type of competitive spirit. Kids who can take harsh criticism from their leader (Kobe) and using that to motivate them. Pushing themselves to gain his acceptance, trust, and respect.

Players who don't have the mental strength to handle that aren't going to find success with the Lakers.

I think you're kind of analyzing this too deeply shape. Obviously Kobe is going to take time off his schedule to teach the young players, it's his camp. We all know that Bynum doesn't have the same work ethic as Kobe Bryant. This is Kobe Bryant we are talking about. Not many players can keep up with Kobe in his workouts, the guy is a freak. Last I heard, Andrew Bynum was supposed to be working with Dwight Howard this offseason. Anyways, I don't really feel it's a "negative," so to speak that Kobe isn't working with Bynum. Sure, I would love for the two to workout and bond, but did Kobe workout with Jordan Farmar? Is he going to work out with Jarvis Crittenton?

As for whether or not Bynum is working hard this offseason, doesn't he have Laker legend Kareem Abdul Jabar pushing him on? Plus, the coaching staff seems pretty happy with his improvements thus far in the offseason, so I really don't see much to complain about...

Perhaps I'm over analyzing it, but I know a lot of people with Kobe's personality traits. His type gets really excited about something, invests everything he has into it, and when the other end doesn't deliver and meet expectations (realistic or not), they get the cold shoulder.

I haven't read any articles about Bynum actually working out with Howard. All I've seen is Bynum's been working out at the Lakers facility since the season ended. I'm sure there would have been some type of press release if those two actually worked out with one another.

Is Kareem really pushing him? Every interview I hear with Kareem he's pushing the books he's recently written.

The coaching staff seems happy, but I have to take it with a grain of salt. Being a dominant practice player doesn't always translate to being a dominant regular season and post season player.

I need to see the results before I can judge Bynum's progress. Unfortunately, the team isn't using him in the summer league's this year.

Jordan Farmar has his own group he works out with. He's a real gym rat so I'm not worried about him being a slacker in the offseason.

You could probably tell Kobe's ego got hurt on that. He came back actually trying to shake & bake him. He got him too.

    Nice dunk by O.J.

It's crazy, OJ is like a Iverson + Baron + Francis (In his glory days) kind of player. I hope he goes in a couple of years, becuase Derrick Rose will go first next year, but OJ will be huge in the NBA.

Or maybe the whole video-tape thing was a setup by Kobe and the Lakers front office to piss Bynum off and bring out that "beast" in Bynum that everyone has been talking about.

Or maybe I'm reaching a little. [IMG]
