<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Heat president and coach Pat Riley said Friday he is willing to commit up to $6 million a season to a player capable of filling the team's needs for a point guard and small forward. ''If he's a player that his production has been such over the past three or four years that he's a double-digit [scorer], a starter, a heavy-minute rotation player and has contributed on a winning situation, you might think about it,'' Riley said. The Heat plans to be patient as it bargain shops. Speaking to reporters for the first time since the free agency period opened Sunday, Riley said he doesn't anticipate using the Heat's entire midlevel exception ($6 million) on just one player when free agents can begin signing contracts Wednesday. </div><div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> The Heat has been in discussions with Denver free agent point guard Steve Blake, a former Miami High star, and Milwaukee guard Mo Williams since Sunday. Riley said the type of player he is targeting at that position might be available through a trade and not necessarily the free agent market. The Heat recently has had trade discussions with Sacramento and the Los Angeles Clippers regarding Ron Artest and Corey Maggette. </div> <a href="http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/basketball/story/163254.html" target="_blank"> Source: Miami Herald</a>
i'd be happy if we landed any of them, except artest. i'm still a bit iffy on mo williams cuz i havent seen him play, so idk, but everyone says he'd be worth it.

He's one of the most underrated players in the league imo. I remember back in the day when he was in Utah, Barkley was hyping him up, and now we see why.

I guess the asking price of Maggette has gone down a bit since they acquired Thornton. Our biggest asset in trades is Haslem, and that's nearly enough for Maggette, even if we build a package around him. Maybe a combination with Jason Williams? A short term fix at PG behind Cassell, and he's an expiring contract. Not sure though because the Heat would be giving away their two biggest assets away for one player and restrict themselves from making any other moves afterwards. I don't think the Clippers bite on seperate packages involving either J-Will or Haslem.
We can't trade Udonis, he fits in so well here and his game complements Shaq and Wade's so well. Plus he's from Miami. I wouldn't trade him because of the little things he does. I think A sign and trade involving Posey, J-Will for Maggette sounds good.

The Clippers have Brand playing 38 MPG at PF, Kaman is a quality starting C who just go a big pay day getting at least 30 MPG, and they just drafted Thornton a SF/PF, and have Tim Thomas on the team, what would be the point of getting Haslem. The Heat shouldn't trade Williams unless they are sure of getting Mo Williams, and while the Clippers could be interested in Williams' expiring contract, Maggette is basically an expiring contract because he has a player option that he's very likely going to reject for 2008/2009. Also going back to the Clippers interest, they are looking at Francis too, and still have Jason Hart as a backup plan. The team also drafted Jared Jordan, but they'd obviously play Williams over him. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I think A sign and trade involving Posey, J-Will for Maggette sounds good.</div> Remember when thinking of moves, you have to think of the other team. J-Will already makes more than Maggette, so the Clippers aren't taking, and can't take two contracts to trade him. The Clippers would have no interest in signing Posey a SF on the team when they just drafted Thornton, have Tim Thomas, brought back Korolev and are trading away a SF.
