<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Warriors sign rookie Wright for four years By Marcus Thompson II CONTRA COSTA TIMES Article Launched: 07/07/2007 03:03:43 AM PDT The Warriors signed rookie forward Brandan Wright to a four-year deal Friday, the final two years being the team's option. Salary figures were not released. But based on the collective bargaining agreement's rookie salary scale for this season, Wright can sign for up to $4.017 million in guaranteed money over the first two years. He can earn up to $5.057 million in the two option years. Wright was selected No. 8 overall by Charlotte in last month's draft, then traded to the Warriors in exchange for guard Jason Richardson and second-round pick Jermareo Davidson, a swingman from Alabama. According to the CBA, draft picks can't be traded for 30 days. So Wright can't be involved in a deal for Minnesota forward Kevin Garnett (as was rumored) until early August. That means the Warriors either have moved on from their Garnett dreams, figured they can get the deal done without Wright, or expect trade talks to carry on for a while. Wright is expected to play for the Warriors in the NBA Summer League, which started Friday in Las Vegas. Marco Belinelli, a 6-foot-5, 192-pound shooting guard from Italy whom the Warriors selected with the No. 18 pick in the draft, figures to sign fairly soon. He is in Las Vegas with the Warriors summer league team and is expected to play the first couple games or so before rejoining the Italian National team. If they don't sign Belinelli, I laugh. 37 points? C'mon. Wright, that was a good signing, with the team option, he will be good fast, one of the underrated picks in this years draft, IMO.

The Warriors will sign Belinelli, it just takes longer because of his buyout with his euro team. Even if he stays in Europe (least likely scenario) we still hold his draft rights.

I'm not an agent or a lawyer, but I'm sure this must take time to go over the negotiations and whatnot with all three parties.
Belly has a buyout for the next three seasons, but it will be easy to do, and the Warriors should have him signed within a week.

I just don't know if he has the Andris Biedrins passion/competition. I did hear there is some skepticism of how determined he is (I think this was for mostly off-court, though I am not sure). As long as he isn't as bad as POB or Dunleavy in this category then I'd agree that he could be a productive player very soon. But going back to comparing Wright to other players, my dad says Wright looks like he could be another Joe Smith. As a Warriors fan, I should probably be able to agree or diagree, but I didn't follow the Warriors back then in 95 and such. But do you guys think that is a decent comparison? But back to the article, I wonder when Wright is supposed to play in the summerleague. I have read that he's likely to miss all of it, but Thompson says he's expected to play. So...I wonder how that will turn out. I'd like to see him get on the court. I'd like to see Lasme too.
Joe Smith was, believe it or not, much more polished than Wright. I'd compare him to a poor man's Camby (without the shot). Either way, he's far from good, talented yes, but not ready.
Great that they sign Wright and that team option could come in handy since you never know that Wright may be a bust.
