i was hoping there were a few tech. guys on here (or people who know anything about computers). my laptop keeps freezing, crashing and restarting. happens every 20 minutes on average. i don't know what's wrong. sometimes,

-the blue screen of death pops up saying that something is wrong with the kernel

-the system/config32 (something like that) is corrupted or missing.

-IRQL_IS_NOT_EQUAL_OR_LESS (not exactly like that but yeah, that pops up too)

-a slight tap on the computer freezes or restarts everything

i've even tried reformatting the computer but the same problems re-occure. i'm typing this as fast as i could before my computer messes up again. also my computer is 3 years old so the warranty is out.

    any suggestions?

It's something to do with the hardware. The first thing I suggest is to open it up and carefully clear all the dust from it. It's most likely overheating, my old computer had the same problem and once I cleaned it from the inside(especially the fan, which was clogged with dust), it started working again and stopped randomly restarting. Get some of those little cotton sticks and clean the fan and the rest of the laptop.

Laker_fan is right. It's probably overheating. I recommend buying one of those air duster canisters and giving it a good spray.

Definitely something to do with the dust. Be very careful though because opening and cleaning laptops is much more diffiucult and requires a steady hand to clean.

I think something is wrong with your registry.

I think the same exact crap happened on my last PC, even the same message with the IRQL stuff. I never was able to get it fixed, and I tried cleaning it out, but it just got worse (maybe I did something inside the comp, no idea, but it was still messed up). And after a while, when I turned it on, the motherboard would run, but nothing would show up on the screen. So I have no solution, sorry. Hopefully you'll find a way to fix it. Also mine was a PC, so that might be totally different in cleaning wise.

Oh man, a Gateway. The worst thing you can ever do is #1: Buy any computer period with Windows ME and #2: Buy a computer by Gateway. They have some of the worst customer service and they rate first in motherboard failures. My first PC was a Gateway and my motherboard fried by itself several times for no reason. It basically gave me the same pop ups you're getting too. Don't buy Gateway next time you ever buy a computer related product be it a laptop or PC/MAC, etc. Call customer service and tell them what's going on as I'm not sure about the laptop.

Here's a thread I made a long time when my computer was messed up: http://justbball.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60596

There's an image I posted of my screen when it was like that in there too, it has the IRQL crap in there. There wasn't much help in there though.

I'm telling you right now, I had that same problem where the computer kept on restarting by itself. You have two options, the first is to replace the fan and the second is to just clean it out. After I cleaned it out, it stopped automatically restarting.
