I have a hard time agreeing with Young anywhere near the top. He hardly played enough to call it a career and if you want to use that as an excuse then Kurt Warner has to be right up there too because he had one of the best 2 year stretches. BTW I'm no way saying Warner should be anywhere near top. I just think longevity has to be considered.

RE: Steve Young Did you guys see my thread where I explain how the 49'ers bought the Superbowl for Steve Young in the first year of Free Agency? Here it is: http://www.nfl-forums.com/forums/san-franc...rbowl-5312.html As for Young being better than Favre, Favre is the reason that Young never got another ring. The Packers knocked the 49'ers out of the playoffs 4 out of 5 years. Young's one victory was the "TO catch" game (which never would have happened if instant replay were in effect...Jerry Rice fumbled on the previous play), but the 49'ers promptly got curb stomped the following week. All that said, Young was a solid, talented, efficient QB who was also a great runner. I just don't think he belongs anywhere near the top 10. Well...certainly not in the top 5, anyway. And that's only going for modern era QB's. You start throwing guys like Tarkenton and Bradshaw and Unitas in there and Young's not even top 10 anymore.

SF knocked them out of the playoffs once as well. And you can't say that the Niners got stomped the following week they beat GB...They lost to the Falcons 20-18. Young passed for 33,000 yards and ran for over 4,200. His TD to Int ration is phenomenal as well. And he's the highest rated passer to ever play the game. Not too mention, and this also goes for Montana, he never had a great RB playing behind him. Ricky Waters was probably the best and he really leaves you lacking. Young might not be top 10 but he's definitely top 15.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Why does Favre only have one ring? SF knocked them out of the playoffs once as well.</div> I was thinking about what a difference one bad decision or one play makes (and has made) in Favre's career. Consider: 1. Mike Holmgren's decision to not run the ball in the 2nd half of the Superbowl against Denver. Dorsey Levens was averaging almost 5 yards a carry against Denver and Holmgren refused to run. 2. In that 49'ers game, Jerry Rice fumbled and the Packers recovered on the play before T.O. scored the winning TD. The officials ruled him down and there was no instant replay. Instant replay came back the following year. 3. 4th and 26 against the Eagles? Come on... This was the closest Favre ever got to getting back to the big one. But you can say that about any player or any team, really. Ask the Raiders about the tuck rule or ask the Bengals about the final Montana drive in their 2nd Superbowl meeting. That's why it's so true what they always say...it's a game of inches.
The best QB of all time is montana. He did things no one will ever do again. Behind him is marino only because of his stats
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Gyro)</div><div class='quotemain'>The best QB of all time is montana. He did things no one will ever do again. Marino wins the Best QB hands down He was the master of the Quick release and never really had much of a supporting cast.. Give marino Montanas weapons and i will show u so many more Championships

Johnny Unitas is the best QB in NFL history, although I wasn't around to watch him play, he was widely considered one of the best and he has great statistics to support that dispute. Favre, Marino, Elway, Montana, etc. all follow.

Not even!! Young was great. He was the best of the 90's over Elway, Favre, and Aikman. As far as most overrated QB of all time...that has to go to Joe Namath.</div> I'll have to agree with that. Namath certainly might win that prize. The rest I'll have to disagree with. BTW, welcome to the forum to you and everyone else new in this thread.</div> Let me elaborate a little. I do not believe Young is the 3rd best QB of all time by any means, but he is definitely one of the greats. I put him in the top 15 which is right where I put Aikman. I do think Young was better than Aikman, Favre, and Elway in the 90's. However, Elway and Favre pass over him because of their production and success in other decades. Young's career as a starter really wasn't all that long. Now as far as best ever...Johnny Unitas gets my vote. He was so consistent season after season up until his body started to wear down on him. Had he been healthy in Super Bowl III then Joe Namath would've never sniffed the Hall of Fame.</div> Favre began his career and "left" it back in the 90's..lol. Steve Young, I am pretty sure, has the best Passer Rating in NFL History.I rank him as 3rd best by all he accomplished in his limited time and all he easily could have accomplished had he been given more playing time than afetr Montana left.

Does that make them better than Marino? Nope. QB's need to be separated from their teams, I think, to truly evaluate them. Would Marino have gotten a ring if he played for any of the Niners teams or Cowboys teams that dominated the 80's and 90's? Yep. Would he have gotten a ring on either of Elway's winning teams? Yep. I'm not saying that Marino IS the greatest QB of all time, but I'm not excluding him based on his lack of a ring, either.

Maybe as a joke but Favre has thrown for 30+ TD's 3 Times in the 00's and the lowest amount of yards Favre has pass for in the 90's is about 3300. The rest were 3800 or higher. He finished 2nd in the MVP voting one year to Rich Gannon as well. Was selected to a couple of Pro Bowl teams as well and lead the NFL in TD passes at least once and maybe 2 times. By no means is Favre the QB of this decade but he certainly didn't leave his career behind in the 90's.
