<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">LAS VEGAS - Corey Brewer probably isn't the type of player who will average 25 points a game in the Las Vegas summer league. He's not Randy Foye.

But Brewer's skills could make him just as important as Foye, last year's most valuable player of the summer league.

Brewer's focus on defense and knack for playing team basketball add key characteristics to a Timberwolves team that lacked chemistry last season. He showed his versatility during Monday night's summer league opener when he guarded several different New Orleans Hornets players, displayed good quickness and athleticism, and was aggressive offensively.

He hit a big three-pointer and two free throws late in regulation, then added a key drive to the basket late in overtime as the Wolves pulled out an 85-83 victory over the Hornets at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Brewer isn't known for his offense, but he scored seven of his 16 points late in regulation and overtime. His crossover dribble and drive to the basket late in overtime all but sealed the victory.

"You've got to make big shots at big times," Brewer said. "My teammates kept finding me at the end of the game, so I had to knock it down."

Brewer's defense is his strength, and that's the primary reason he was selected seventh overall by the Wolves in the June 28 draft. He is expected to be a key member of the rotation next season. If his offense catches up to his defense, that role could grow faster. </div>

With Brewer's decent range I could see him actually being a 20 ppg scorer down the road. He obviously has the athleticism to be a very good slasher nd his shot isn't bad or anything. I kinda see him as being a Sprewell type player actually

Well Corey Brewer's offense hasn't looked so well in the Summer League - he's shooting 23%...but then again, it's the Summer League...Randy Foye is shooting 39% while Rashad McCants is shooting even worse than Brewer at 22%...

There's no questioning Brewer's athleticism and defense, though.

Brewer seems to me like a Shane Battier with more athleticism...
