San Antonio, Phoenix & Dallas all have good size at the PF position. Who are we gonna counter that with? A player who weighs barely 200lbs? I just don't see Mikkie Moore strong enuff to play alongside Yao. Joe Smith is fit enuff to run the court, but also strong enuff to bang down low. He's got that grit that we need at PF. Mikki Moore isn't strong enuff

He needs a good PG to be good. Kidd is the reason he is good. However, I think in Houston, he could play well, because he has a OK jumper, and like DREAM said, he isn't a PG down low, he is pretty strong.

Smith on the other hand is more of a traditional low post player, but he's not as good as Moore at rebounding and shot-blocking. Either way Smith will probably come cheaper but in Moore we get a younger, more athletic player. That fits your mantra of players our team should bring in.
How about Chris Webber? Apparently, Detroit doesn't plan on bringing him back next season and Webber is considering Dallas now. He's familiar with Rick Adelman's system, and he'd compliment Yao Ming well because he can score in the post or from the free throw elbows. He still moves considerably well despite his back problems and knee problems. He's not as explosive any more, but Webber knows how to use his body to boxout and secure a rebound. I wouldn't be fooled into signing Mikki Moore. He really benefitted from having Jason Kidd on the court. Moore is a scrub with little to offer. I think Joe Smith would be solid addition. He's consistent with his contributions and will do the dirty work inside the paint.
I'm not expecting Mikki to be a superstar or anything I just think he's an upgrade and better than anything out there....he has a decent J, is long, and can finish around the rim, and brings a scrappy element that this team could use.

You need someone who can pound these guys and still pose as a threat to score. Duncan still gets shakey when the defender roughs him up.
After watching him for a season as a Clipper, I would argue 10 mil over 3 years is too much for him unless you're NJ. Kidd dramatically improved Moore's game, he has always been nothing more than a hustle player. He'll do the dirty work for you, but in the end he's your 10th man on any other team. He excelled in NJ because of their lack of big men and defenses focused on their perimiter offensive game. If he did come to Houston I would expect him to produce as much as he did as a Clipper, not much else. Who else was there to grab offensive boards or catch the ball down in the block besides Moore? Collins? he averaged a whopping 2ppg. Signing Moore would be a mistake if that's their answer to the PF hole..
Webber has said that he'd only consider Dallas or Detroit, so I doubt the Rockets have a chance at this point. Moore benefitted from Kidd, no doubt, but with people like Maceo Baston getting millions, $4 million a year for Moore won't be too much of a stretch. I've seen quite a few Nets games last season and it seems that Moore was benefitting from the New Jersey system as much as he was from Kidd. Kidd got him the ball at the right times, but a lot of his baskets also came from running the break and just hustling to get offensive rebounds. With Adelman moving Yao to the high post more, Moore would be perfect to stand under the rim and get garbage points. I agree that we need a physical PF as much as anything but Joe Smith on the defensive end would be too immobile. We just can't have two slow and unathletic post players in Yao and Smith. Moore gives us an agile PF to guard the Stoudemires, Okurs, and to a lesser extent, Duncans.

Mikkie Moore isn't physical enuff to bang in the Western Conference. Plus we don't have Jason Kidd to throw him alley hoops. I think ur overrating this guy

McGrady is a scorer who is also a very nice pick and roll passer. Mikki Moore is being underatted here like every player who plays with a good point guard. No PG can make you hit so many shots, better players than him can't hit 55% of their jumpshots even when open. Moore isn't the only guy in the league that get's open mid-range shots. Jason Kidd or no Jason Kidd, the guy hit 55% of his jumpshots during the season, and 58% of his 15 and out jumpshots. Carter helped Moore just as much as Kidd did, so he would work perfectly fine on a team with McGrady on the pick and roll, and would be a nice guy to have paired up with Yao to spread the floor. Against a guy like Duncan who truthfull plays more C than PF, you could have Yao guard Duncan and put Moore on Elson/Oberto. Moore is small, but Joe Smith isn't that much bigger, he's only about 225 lbs himself, Moore is about 220 something too. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Moore is the type who'd thrive in transition. Joe Smith is actually a better rebounder than Mikki Moore, they're the same with offensive rebounding, but Joe Smith is a better defensive rebounder, and while he isn't much of a shot blocker, Moore doesn't block many shots either. Talking about Amare, the Suns would be playing him at C with Marion at PF. The Rockets would have no choice but to put Yao on him unless they want Yao to guard Marion, so in that situation, they would just hope for their guys to outproduce their counterparts. I don't know here. Both Mikki and Joe Smith are 32 years old, both are fairly athletic and can move. Joe Smith can defend man to man, is the better rebounder, and while his shot wasn't as consistent going in, he can shoot. I don't know how much I'd want to pay Mikki, don't know about $4 million a year, that's too much. Right now Houston is just getting a gap fill guy. If Joe Smith can be gotten for a shorter time, Houston could look to get a nicer player with the MLE in a future year.

He's extended his game to making jumpshots as he's gotten older, but he's more than capable of scoring in the post. I don't know Locke, Moore having to defend Amare or Duncan is not in the Rockets best interest. They'll get him in foul trouble within 5 minutes, because Moore cannot hold position after they use a power move in the post on him. He'll get whistled for reaching or called after he tries to retaliate from the offensive player's initial contact.
Smith may not be a bad option. He was grabbing a lot of rebounds and giving the Sixers offense when they needed it (mostly after the ASB). It was his contract year, so his numbers are inflated.

Moore is younger, more athletic, quicker on his feet and he's also listed as a 7 footer. Moore would be a good signing.
Moore isn't really "younger" they're both born in 1975, and are currently both 32 years old. Moore has less NBA minutes on his body, that's about the only thing we can give him in terms of that area.

Joe Smith is solid and a lot tougher on the inside than Moore.
No Joe Smith. He signed with Chicago for 2 years, I dont know how much money but it was reported on ESPN.
