Darko Signs With Memphis <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Free-agent center Darko Milicic agreed in principle to a three-year contract with the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday, the player's agent Marc Cornstein told ESPN.com Insider Chad Ford. Cornstein refused to disclose the amount of the deal, but the starting salary is believed to be for substantially more than the $5.3 million mid-level exception. ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher, citing anonymous sources, is reporting that the deal is for three years and $21 million. A formal team announcement could take place as early as Thursday. "We are extremely excited for this new opportunity," Cornstein said. "Darko's going to a team that really wants him. He's going to a young team with an exciting bright future much like his own. We're very excited Darko gets to learn from coach Marc Iavaroni. We believe he's one of the best big men coaches in the game. And we couldn't be happier that he has found a new home where he's appreciated."</div> <div align="center">
Good deal for Memphis. 3/21 is pretty good for player who hasn't proved a lot yet, but is still improving.
<div class="quote_poster">The Walrus Wrote</div><div class="quote_post"><div align="center"> </div> There was no reason to think that he would have gotten $10 mil a year. This is a great deal for Memphis and he is going to be deadly right alongside Gasol. Otis Smith just didn't want him as evidenced by the lack of being able to clear cap space.
So any predictions on his numbers for next year? I bet since he's not on the Magic he will put up 18 and 10 just because players explode when they leave Orlando. I'd certainly pick him up in a later round for fantasy.
I'm feeling so down right now. We overpay for Lewis, Chauncey and G-Force sign for LESS than Lewis combined, and now this..... This organization gets better and better.
Isnt exactly "Breaking News", there has been talk about this for the last week or 2, and he still hasnt even officially signed yet. Once he does, it will be a good move for Memphis, hopefully Darko will see alot of playing time, considering Gasol usually plays the 5 from what I gather, so he'll be able to slot back into the 4 now. Although where does this leave Hakim Warrick? Simply a bench player? I thought he filled in nicely last season for Gasol when he was out injured, and think he is worthy of starting.
I think Orlando took a step back with this. As much as I never really like Darko, he helped them, and I can't deny it. This is horrible for the Magic, who could of used him with Howard and Lewis. Would of been a pretty good front court. I just think now, Otis Smith is a bit high and drunk at the same time. He needs to settle down and see who he can bring in to help. Right now, with Darko going to Memphis, is not going to help the Magic at all.

Man I love darko and hate to see him go. I would of love to see dwight and darko man handle the east but I guess we will never see that again. For memphis they got a steal. So I guess gasol is out for sure? Well I guess we need to push for fran to come over

Oh and why would his statistics decrease with a better coach and a better situation with more minutes?

I'd say 15-25 mpg is more realistic. I wouldn't say he's in a better situation though. Memphis has a more talented frontline than Orlando, and Iavaroni is going to be running a spread offense that's more suited to the skillsets of guys like Gasol, Swift, Johnson, and Warrick than it is Milicic.
