    <u>Done Deal</u>
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Jul 13 - Chucky Atkins, a point guard with eight years of NBA experience, said Thursday night he will be in Denver today to sign a multiyear contract with the Nuggets.

"Pretty much a done deal," Atkins said. "I'm very excited. Very happy. For one, just to be off the (free- agent) market. Secondly, to be going to play for a very talented team that has a chance to win it all."

Atkins' pending arrival means point guard Steve Blake is unlikely to return to the Nuggets. -- Rocky Mountain News </div>

I guess no Brevin Knight. He had his moments in LA, but to me could help the Nuggets, but not as much as Blake could.

Wow, Chucky Atkins' agent is amazing. He keeps landing his client in situations where he takes over the reigns as the starting point just by default. First Los Angeles, then Memphis, and now Denver (if they don't re-sign Blake).

This is a horrible move from the Nuggets' perspective though. Atkins is possibly the worst guard in the league. Not only is he 5'11" shooting guard who's shooting just over 41% from the field on his career, but he's a liability on defense as well. I just don't see how this guy keeps making NBA rosters, especially with "multiyear contracts."

Yeah...honestly. They're better off starting AI at the point and putting JR at SG or someone else.

Well, I would have gone after Steve Blake, but now he is back in Portland. I think we should still hope that Brevin Knight is available and wants to come to Denver. We need a solid, structured point guard who is a terrific play runner / reader, great passing and solid D. I don't think Atkins really fits that description. Damn it is all I can say.

Actually for some reason they were set on Atkins before Blake signed, which was more reason for him to goto the Blazers. I guess Blake wanted too much money for the Nuggets preference. With Carmelo's contract kicking in next year to go with the max. contracts of AI and Martin, and huge contracts of Nene and Camby, they are really cash strapped.

Fair point I guess, I was just hoping to keep the best possible pieces for the team, I didn't think of the cash situation. How much would Brevin Knight run us??? MLE??? Do we have ANY cash left to pursue players???
