I generally start with one of the following: Man Utd - the team I support, but it can get a bit easy Fulham - my 'home' Premiership team, but sometimes I'd rather not start in the top division Farnborough - I did this once, as they are in the bottom League in English football (Conference South) and have been deducted 10 points due to being in administration, so you start with -10. And I got promoted Unemployed - the ultimate challenge. I managed to get signed by a team called Cr?eteil in the French Second Division, eventually becoming Fiorentina and England Manager by 2015.
I am down for a FM08 league, though I haven't really done much in a while. Any footy sim is fine, I get addicted to that stuff very quickly.
