The Lakers have gone to their past in hopes that it will help solidify their immediate future in the backcourt.

    Derek Fisher

Point guard Derek Fisher, who played an integral role on the Lakers' three-peat team earlier this decade, has agreed in principle to a three-year contract, the Los Angeles Times reports. The deal is worth roughly $14 million.

Its good to have Fisher back, he was one of my favorite players when he was on the Lakers: hs:
Is his contract MLE or veterns minimum

That leaves Los Angeles with a little more than $1 million left from their $5.3 million mid-level exception to sign another free agent. The Lakers still have the veterans' exception of $1.3 million.</div>

That gives us 1.3mil to spend on someone. With another 1.3 of the vets mininum. Can't you put those together to give away 2.6mil?

    PG - Derek Fisher
    SG - Kobe Bryant
    SF - Luke Walton
    PF - Lamar Odom
    C - Kwame Brown

This team is going to be in the lottery for sure next season. Kobe's gone by next season IMO if he doesn't demand a trade by the deadline.

So uhhh, we're still in the first round here. Will maybe win 2 games this time around. Not impressed, Mitch [IMG]

Fisher is great but then again why will you need 3 PG?

Fisher is there to mentor and teach Jordan Farmar and Jaravis Crittenton. You can't honestly tell me you'd be comfortable with a sophmore Jordan Farmar starting in an 82 game season, backed up by a rookie Jaravis Crittenton in the triangle offense, do you? I really doubt Crittenton will see much playing next season. His minutes will probably be similar to Andrew Bynum in his first season

I'd be ok with this signing if it didn't take away most of our MLE. Oh well, at least it's only a three year deal. But regardless, Fisher isn't what he used to be. He's no longer a great defensive player and his offense consists of spot up jumpers and not much else. Who knows, hopefully being back in LA will jumpstart the back end of his career a little, but I doubt it.

If we trade up for Jermaine, we would have a combo of Fisher-Bryant-Oneal again.[IMG]
