Peterson visited Salt Lake City earlier this week to meet with Utah Jazz officials. He also said Detroit, New Jersey, Cleveland, Miami and Toronto had expressed interest in him.

    Hornets sign Peterson

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">LAS VEGAS - Free agent Morris Peterson of the Toronto Raptors, whom the Hornets' targeted as their top priority to sign in free agency, agreed to a four-year, $23 million contract with the Hornets on Friday.

Peterson will become the team's starting shooting guard and Peja Stojakvoic will be moved to small forward, his natural position. In 2004, the Hornets signed Peterson to an offer sheet but the Raptors matched it.

Seems like he's going to the place where he actually wanted to go when he was a restricted Free-Agent..

I find it funny how there was all this talk to Utah, then he goes and signs with the Hornets. I wonder if this makes Desmond Mason trade bait or expandable?

We signed Kapono to 24mil/4yrs.... MOpete signed for 23mil/4yrs...
    THE CONTRACT relatively close.
And it seems to me that BC didnt wanna pay MOpete 5.5-6million dollars that the hornets are gonna be paying him. Instead he chose to invest it in the best 3pt shooter in the NBA.

Im just curious, which of these two players would you guys rather have for that much money. KAPONO or MOpete?

Mason is a free agent, so he's pretty much gone from the Hornets. Not sure if he's too expandable though since Mason isn't a balloon, but I'm pretty sure that he's expendable.[IMG]

I think Mo Pete didn't really get a chance to showcase a lot of things that he did well a few seasons ago with the limited minutes he got. He realized he was under a short leash and he didn't really feel comfortable out on the court a lot of the times. I remember back in 2005-2006 he would use that mid range jumper (one that he had recently developed at the time) very effectively to keep his defenders respecting his three point shooting/slashing.

Lol, my bad. I think though, even though it is very unlikely almost not going to happen, Mason wouldn't be to bad except for his turnovers and bad jumper, but he can dunk and slash[IMG]

I agree, I thought the whole season, Mo Pete is gone next season. He just wasn't being used and he was getting fed up. I was just thinking why we didn't use him at the SF position?

yeah about time they got this deal signed. I think everyone knew it was going down.

But what the hell is up with the number 24??? Kapono goes to Toronto and replaces Peterson and steals his jersey number 24. Then Peterson goes to New Orleans who essientially will replace Desmond Mason who is number 24. Now Desmond Mason is probably going to Millwaukee...maybe Yi Lianian is getting traded to L.A for Kobe Bryant...number 24.[IMG] [IMG]

I would have wanted the 2 years back version of Mo but not last year Mo. 2 years ago, he was a good shooter and a pretty good defender.

Good luck to Mo. Hopefully he can get in shape this season and be more consistent for the Hornets. I'm glad that he'll get a chance to start. I have no doubt that fans will be cheering for him when he comes back.

Something I just thought of: I remember how the Hornets a couple years back wanted Mo and signed him to a multi-year offer sheet but since he was restricted, we matched the offer. What happens when a player does not want to go back, especially not wanting to sign for multiple years? Does he have a choice? Can they sign a one year deal to become an unrestricted free agent the next season? Don't really hear much about that kind of situation.

Usually when the player doesn't want back and he's restricted, the player will ask/demand a sign and trade. If the team does not want to do a sign and trade, they will sign a one year deal to be an unrestricted free agent. Good example was Stromile Swift, he resigned for one year with the Grizzlies and then signed with Houston which he eventually found his way back to Memphis. Or in cases like Darko, where the team and the player agree that they don't fit, the offer sheet to make the player restricted gets revoked.

I think that Mo will fit in well, especially with a PG like Paul who will get a lot of drive and kicks to Mo. He'll start for sure because he is instant offense when his shot if falling.

I wonder when he comes back to the ACC if he'll get booed. I think he'll get an applause because he did so much for us, and left like a man, not like some other player who cried a lot.

Why would he get booed? I think he wanted to remain a Raptor but he just wasn't in BC's plans. He never complained or bitched about playing time.

I have no doubt that he will be cheered when he comes back and remain as one of the most favourite Raptors of all time.

If he gets booed, everyone in the ACC that night should be banned from attending any further games. Mo-Pete's one of the best to ever wore a Raptors uniform. I hope he's successful in New Orleans.

Yea, banned is right. He gave us so much. This is kinda like Jay Rich to Charlotte. A favorite player who has been here through the good and bad, is gone now. I hope one day, he gets his number retired as a Raptor...Right beside Chris Bosh and Anthony Parker (Hopefully)
