<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Memphis Grizzlies General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Wallace announced today the team has requested waivers on forward Alexander Johnson.

Last season, Johnson appeared in 59 games (19 starts) for the Grizzlies and averaged 4.4 points and 3.1 rebounds in 12.8 minutes per game. The 6-9, 240-pound forward was assigned to the Arkansas RimRockers of the NBA Development League on March 1 and averaged 13.2 points and 8.6 rebounds in five games (four starts), before being recalled by the Grizzlies on March 15.

Originally selected by Indiana in the second round of the 2006 NBA Draft (45th overall), Johnson's draft rights were traded to Portland along with two future second round picks in exchange for the draft rights to James White. His draft rights were then traded by Portland to Memphis in exchange for a second round pick in the 2008 NBA Draft </div>

That's kind of surprising. I remember some people on the Lakers board wanted us to draft him instead of Jordan Farmar back in 2006. I wonder why he was released?

This is honestly shocking. When Jerry West was running the show, he apparently loved the guy, and he was really productive in what playing time he got last season, especially considering he was only a rookie. I thought he had a bright future with us to be honest.

It's also surprising considering that we gave up this year's second round pick (#31) just to move into last year's draft and pick him. We also started him nineteen games, as a rookie. A lot of first round picks didn't even play nineteen games last season, much less start in them.

I guess he doens't fit in with Iavaroni's spread offense as well as Gasol, Milicic, Warrick, and Swift, but why not try to trade him? I'm sure he'd at least bring in a future draft pick from someone.

Yeah wow. This is very shocking. Probably released him though due to the amount of big men on the roster now with the addition of Darko Milicic. Bwing a Florida State fan, I wouldnt mind seein him come back to Florida and play for the magic to help our front court a bit.

He's a good player that defenity shows up when minutes are granted to him. Not starter ready, but a good bench/role player.

I think he is quite a sloid reserve and an energy type player. I think he will be given another chance by another team. A lot of teams need some frontcourt help, and he could really help out!!!

Yeah but Jerry West is always watching. I saw an interview with the Grizzlies' new coach and he said team decisions go through him, West, and Wallace. His official title is like a "freelancer" or something.
