<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">New York Post - According to multiple league sources, the Nets were "very close" to completing a three-team trade that would have landed Lamar Odom from the Lakers while sending Richard Jefferson to the Bobcats. The Lakers, in turn, would have received Gerald Wallace from Charlotte. "It was very close, but just didn't happen," said one league source. The three-way talks flourished a few weeks ago, and one source insisted Charlotte part-owner Michael Jordan squashed the deal. Wallace, who shares the same agent, Rob Pelinka, as Kobe Bryant, yesterday re-signed with Charlotte (six years, $57 million) after averaging 18.1 points. Odom averaged 15.9 points and 9.8 rebounds for L.A. while Jefferson averaged 16.3 points. So the Nets' Big Three of Jason Kidd, a re-signed Vince Carter and Jefferson nearly evaporated. the last year was geralds contract, so you never know how will he perform from now on, like tim thomas did great in phoenix then he signed with the clippers cashed in and now he sucks!! he is lazy
Contract years are iffy. You can't say a player plays better because of it because that is like questioning their love for the game, and they'll never admit it. But, deep down, I think we know and they know, and their agents most likely tell them (In the case of Mikki Moore and Wallace) "You better play your ass and heart out there to get a good contract"
Yea, but this wasn't a "flash in the pan" type thing. Wallace has been showing gradual improvement and it culminated into a great season. Either way, this trade wouldn't have made sense for the Lakers or the Bobcats.
I'd rather we gave away Odom and Bynum for O'Neal instead of Odom for Wallace. This is one of the worst possible trades that we could do.
This is where Lamar Odom's trade value is at? The Lakers were willing to deal him straight up for Gerald Wallace? I like Gerald Wallace, but he would be terrible in the Triangle offense because he cannot shoot. Having him on the floor would mess up the spacing needed to run the Triangle offense, because defenses would pack it in the post and just let Wallace shoot wide open jumpers.
This makes me wonder if we're contemplating the Odom and Bynum for Jermaine deal. Why would we deal our starting PF (Odom) for a starting SF (Wallace)? It makes no sense. Is Turiaf going to be our starter? I think the Lakers were testing Odom's value to see what he could pull in by himself compared to getting Jermaine with Odom and Bynum. It just makes no sense to make this deal. Fisher Kobe Wallace Turiaf Bynum That is a hideous lineup.
I'm glad it fell through. Turiaf would've been our starting power forward. And we've been loaded at the small forward position.
I would have not like that trade Odom for Wallace no way.We could try to get a better trade for Odom than this one.
