<u>MJ Stops Three-Team Deal</u> <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Jul 20 - According to multiple league sources, the Nets were "very close" to completing a three-team trade that would have landed Lamar Odom from the Lakers while sending Richard Jefferson to the Bobcats. The Lakers, in turn, would have received Gerald Wallace from Charlotte. "It was very close, but just didn't happen," said one league source. The three-way talks flourished a few weeks ago, and one source insisted Charlotte part-owner Michael Jordan squashed the deal. -- New York Post </div>
The Bobcats made it clear that they wanted Odom and would be a 3rd team in any deal involving the Lakers and Minny if they were the team receiving Odom. I'm going to put money on MJ rejecting the trade because Odom was going to New Jersey, and not Charlotte.

Actually, no. The Bobcats came out and stated they wanted Odom for the 8th pick, we ignored it. They wanted Odom, MJ wanted Odom, he fits in their style. But, the Lakers didn't let go of him.
<div class="quote_poster">02civic Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">or maybe because Wallace >>> Odom</div>How so? Wallace has next to no jump shot and relies mostly on his freakish athletic ability to score. The only thing he trumps Odom on is defense. Offensively, Odom is much better.
I wouldn't really say Odom is a slacker. He does work decently hard for his time on the court. The only issue I have with him is his inconsistency. If he could be a CONSISTENT 18/9 type of guy, the Lakers wouldn't be putting him on the block consistently.
Good. MJ would've messed up on that one big time. And BTW, Lamar Odom being as good as Wallace is laughable. Are you guys are saying you wouldn't like the trade from the Lakers point?

Are you guys are saying you wouldn't like the trade from the Lakers point?</div> I'd say talent wise their fairly equal, but Odom has an edge with his size and ability to create off the dribble. Wallace needs an effective play maker to get him the ball. Wallace has the edge on defense. System wise, Gerald Wallace would be a disaster on the Lakers. The Triangle relies on ball movement and everyone on the perimeter being able to make mid-range or long-range shots. Without your wing players shooting a high percentage the spacing isn't right to operate the Triangle effectively. Wallace is also a miserable free throw shooter. From the standpoint of how long it takes to learn the Triangle for most players this would have been a step backwards for the Lakers. Odom's experience in the offense and also in the playoffs makes it tough to deal him unless you're getting back a real impact All-Star.

Are you guys are saying you wouldn't like the trade from the Lakers point?</div>How so? Because he's got a more polished offensive game? Because he's a better rebounder? Because he can create his own shot? Because he can make a jump shot? Honestly, the only thing Wallace is better at is defense, everything else, Odom has the edge.
<div class="quote_poster">Master Shake Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Ah MJ, the Russian Judge. Wallace>>>>>>Jefferson Oden>Jefferson</div> Wallace really isn't that much better than Jefferson, actually that's if he's better at all. They're at the same level as players, Wallace has the off ball defensive abilities and all, but RJ is a better shooter, ball handler, scorer, passer, can create his own shot better, and isn't a bad man to man defender. I would take Wallace if I was MJ because he's younger, will be making less, and even though he's not the most healthy guy, RJ though not injury prone hasn't been staying on the court too well.
<div class="quote_poster">Master Shake Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Ah MJ, the Russian Judge. Wallace>>>>>>Jefferson Oden>Jefferson</div> So Gerald Wallace >>>>> Greg Oden?
Wallace is the best defender of the 3, but the worst scorer. I mean Odom is a good player but isn't as consistent as the Lakers would want him to be. I think that trade would have been fair to everyone but the Lakers because G. Force would have been a disaster in the triangle offense because he has no outside shot. He's improved his shot though over the years but Odom has a better shot.
