    <u>Griz Add Brown</u>
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Jul 20 - According to a source, the Grizzlies have signed 6-foot-9, 245-pound free agent power forward Andre Brown to add depth to their front line. Brown, 26, who made his NBA debut last season in Seattle, is an athletic, explosive leaper the team was hoping to find.

With the addition of another frontcourt player, the Grizzlies will turn their attention to finding a two-guard/small forward who can provide more perimeter shooting. They have expressed an interest in Portland's Ime Udoka and Golden State's Matt Barnes. -- Memphis Commercial-Appeal</div>

I still don't understand why the Grizzlies released Alexander Johnson...and then go around and sign an exact replica of him. [IMG]

I have to agree with you. It seems like either Alexander Johnson made one of the higher-ups mad, or he was just cut by new GM Chris Wallace in an attempt to bring in "his guys" and clear out "Jerry's guys."

Meanwhile, the bigger issue is, why did the Grizzlies sign a post player when they have no depth on the wing? As of now, there's no one coming off the bench for Rudy Gay.

The article also says that they're looking for perimeter shooting from their next acquisition. Does that mean Mike Miller's on the way out? He's one of the top five shooters in the game today, and the Grizzlies aren't satisfied with their shooting on the wing?

Anyway, here's how their depth chart looks now:

PG - Kyle Lowry / Mike Conley, Jr. / Damon Stoudamire
SG - Mike Miller / Tarence Kinsey
    SF - Rudy Gay
PF - Darko Milicic / Hakim Warrick / Andre Brown / Brian Cardinal
    C - Pau Gasol / Stromile Swift

If I were in charge of this team, I'd shop Damon Stoudamire to a team that needs a point guard, like Miami, Boston, or Atlanta. Come to think of it, Stoudamire would be an interesting fit in Atlanta alongside his cousin. Maybe the Grizzlies can throw in a future draft pick and get Childress in return.

Or better yet they could do a sign and trade where Damon Stoudamire goes to Miami and James Posey goes to Memphis. That would wrokout pretty nicely.

But i still think Grizzlies will go after Matt Barnes to help the 3 spot.

I imagine that Andre Brown's contract isn't fully guaranteed. He is pretty nice sub because he is a high energy player who plays good defense and can finish well around the rim.

With the depth in the frontcourt I doubt that he will factor in much to your success this year. I was very surprised that Johnson was waived and the signing of Brown really doesn't add too much to the franchise. I'm happy for the kid because he seems to be a tough minded person.
