<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Kyle Lowry was tired but in a good way. He had just completed a summer league game with the Memphis Grizzlies earlier this month in Las Vegas, and the former Villanova player from Philadelphia's Cardinal Dougherty High was taking nothing for granted.

It actually felt good to be fatigued after a basketball game. Then again, just getting into a game had put Lowry in an appreciative mood.

Even though he is entering his second NBA season after being selected as the 24th player in the first round of the 2006 draft, Lowry doesn't have much more experience than many of the rookies he was competing against in Las Vegas.

A promising rookie season ended suddenly when Lowry broke his left wrist in a Nov. 21 game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Two operations and nine months later, Lowry is working his way back. And he takes nothing for granted.

"It's great to be out on the court again," Lowry said. "Each time out you can feel yourself getting better."

And Lowry says he has no apprehension about his injury.

"The wrist is 100 percent," he said. "It doesn't hurt anymore."

Lowry ended up performing well in Las Vegas. He was one of 14 players named to the first-team all-Las Vegas squad, joining among others, 76ers third-year point guard Lou Williams.

During his five games in Las Vegas, Lowry averaged 16.4 points, 3.2 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.8 steals. He didn't have to take a backseat to anybody in the quickness department.

"I think he showed a lot of aggressiveness, and you always like to see that," Mark Iavaroni, the Grizzlies' first-year coach, said in a phone interview last week.

Before his injury, Lowry was making a strong contribution for the Grizzlies. In 10 appearances, he averaged 5.6 points and 3.2 assists in 17.5 minutes as a backup point guard.

"I was definitely feeling good about how things were going in the NBA," Lowry said. "Now this is a new year, and I can't worry about the past."

The injury aside, Lowry's development could have taken a hit after Memphis drafted Mike Conley Jr. with the fourth overall pick in this year's draft. Suddenly, people weren't talking about Lowry being the Grizzlies' point guard of the future.

One player apparently not upset at the addition of Conley is Lowry.

"It's a team, not one player," he said. "Mike is going to help us be a better team."

During the summer league competition, Iavaroni unveiled an interesting backcourt - the 6-foot Lowry teaming with the 6-1 Conley. While they may give away something at the defensive end, any NBA team would be hard-pressed to find a quicker backcourt. It's something that Iavaroni is toying with doing in the regular season.

"With the two of them together, they pick up the pace of the game," Iavaroni said.

Iavaroni, a former Sixer, says that Memphis has a logjam at point guard, and he's going to let the competition determine who plays.

In addition to Conley, the Grizzlies have 13-year veteran Damon Stoudamire on the roster.

Just as he never shies away from contact, Lowry won't back off from the competition. And despite his limited time last year, he views himself as a veteran who can help the Grizzlies. Memphis had the NBA's worst record, 22-60, last season.</div>

I like how the Grizzlies are going to change the starting lineup from game-to-game, depending on who their compeition is, but on the whole, I'm expecting Lowry to get the bulk of the playing time. He's very underrated by the casual fan because he didn't play for most of his rookie season. In the ten games he played though, he averaged 5.6 ppg, 3.1 rpg, and 3.2 apg in just 17.5 mpg.

He struggles to score offensively because of his lack of a jumper, but he's got the potential to be a top tier floor general. Like the article says, he's very physical and aggressive, especially for someone his size. At just 6'0", he grabbed ten boards in his first game in the NBA. He was just starting to hit his stride before he got hurt too. In his last full game with the Grizzlies, Lowry posted 16 points (6-10 FG), 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and 5 steals with no turnovers in a win over the Magic. I know statistics can be misleading, but that still speaks volumes about the kind of talent Lowry is.

That's impressive 10 boards at 6ft. He's got competition with Conley though
