The Rockets Season Opener is against the Portland TrailBlazers on November 3rd at Home. First game of the year versus the first overal pick. We should start the season off 1-0.

    Get excited.

The two most hyped teams so far in the offseason do battle. We should get a W here, based on the experienced squad we have going up against some young guns. I hope Yao drops 40 on Oden, just to let him know who is boss. I think I might want to attend this game.

I wonder if Nate McMillan is going to try and guard Yao with Oden. If they don't double him, look for Yao to score 40+

Now Oden can play with the big dawgs, and really show us if he's got anything.

Damn this is gonna be a good game, but Rockets will come out on top. I might think about going to this game.

Yao is gonna **** all over Oden in his first ever game. But it would being funner if Yao gets owned by Oden. Talk about a great debut. [IMG]

Edit: Is the schedule out already for the new season?

That'd be so badass to see Yao dunk on Oden and embarass him. Oden is going to be too nervous. [IMG] But again, what if Yao gets owned [IMG]

Is that a joke? Even as a rookie, Oden will probably be the best defensive big man in the NBA outside of Camby and Wallace. Yet you're suggesting he needs a double team to keep Yao under 40?

Go for it. Why the hell do you think Oden was drafted #1 overall, in a draft with a player like Kevin Durant out there?

I don't think you've ever seen Oden play, if you doubt his defensive capabilities.

Yup, he is gonna be so good defensively (not that he isn't already). If he can keep his fouls down. Yao isn't good enough yet to get fouls calls like Shaq. Oden I think will keep Yao to under 20 and under 10 boards. Oden is going to move Yao like he isn't even there. I'm sorry to say, but your thinking of Yao owning Oden is like saying Mike James will average 9 assists a game.

Has anyone heard of this Oden guy in the NBA? He's supposed to be the next Kobe Bryant.

Yao has scored 30+ on Shaq, Amare, and Dwight. He can score 40 against any team that does not double, front, or hack him, that's easily a fact. No disrespect to Oden, but for a guy that gets in foul trouble in summer league games (I was watching the game he played in, many ticky-tack fouls, but Yao gets called for those every game), I do not think he will keep Yao under 20. Saying a Rookie will contain Yao (which is an under 20 performance in most of our eyes) is disrespecting Yao. He could have completely dominated the league had he not been injured last year (He was 26 and 10, with nearly 3 blocks before he got injured). But this isn't Oden vs. Yao.

The people defending Oden are people I have great respect for on this board, and maybe 40 is an exaggeration, but Yao has put points up against great defenders. I want 28 and 13 from Yao. And, for the record, I was hoping Yao would score 40. Either way, I'll be disappointed without a W, here.

I agree, and I don't think that anyone was implying Yao won't go for his usual 20+ points (outside of Master Shake [IMG]), but 40+ is really disrespecting Oden's defense on a more extreme level than Yao is being disrespected by Master Shake saying that he'll be held under 20.

I'm definitely interested to see how it plays out though, because in college, Oden was such a dominant defender that most teams completely changed their offensive game plans when they went against Ohio State. Teams that would normally feed the ball to the post on a regular basis switched it up, out of intimidation, and would play games almost entirely on the perimeter.

As for summer league games, the problem with them is that they're guard dominated. Players like Oden, or even Tim Duncan a few years prior, tend to struggle in those environments and pick up more fouls than they normally would. I know Oden also had foul troubles in college, but any post player would. I don't think he's that much more foul-prone than the normal rookie big man. He's just under a bigger microscope than most.

I know highlight clips don't really tell much about a player's game, and I'm not using these to necessarily support my argument, but since we're on the topic, these are some must see blocks:

Regardless of what Oden does against Yao in the Rockets' opener, he's going to be fun to watch all season long with instincts like that.
