How about a sig bet of this:

Yao will score more than 23 points and Oden will have less than 12 boards. Fair enough? No BS excuses like foul trouble, injuries, blowout game, etc.

by the way, isnt there a chance that this isnt oden's first game. he can still play a game or two before this one, but idk. anyway, i hope oden goes crazy whenever he says yao, whether it be his first game or not. i want success for the kid, i know it sounds weird but its true. oden for ROY.

VC will just say he was high as hell and didn't know what he was doing at the time. He'll change your sig (since hes a global mod) from his RIDICULOUS predictions to a picture of Yao being dunked on by Oden.

Trust me I've been through this with him before on AIM. He is a bastard you hear me? A BASTARD.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Is that a joke? Even as a rookie, Oden will probably be the best defensive big man in the NBA outside of Camby and Wallace. Yet you're suggesting he needs a double team to keep Yao under 40?</div>

I'll say Yao will drop 25-30 points on him his first time out...I'm still not seeing the big deal about Oden....maybe he'll prove me wrong come Nov. 3rd.

Yeah, Yao already went off last season before getting injured. Not to mention his numbers continually increase every season.

Wow, you guys really under estimate Oden. And over hype Yao. Yao will never be the defensive player Oden is and will be. Oden, is way more dominate in the post, and could take Yao every time. Oden is a man-child. Yao is a a soft kid in a 7 footers body. Yao can score, he can play, but he isn't going off on Oden. Oden will make him work for it, Yao is not dominate like you think he is. He is a good centre, a guy I would want on my team, but I much rather have Oden.

    Right Now

    Yao>Oden

    1-2 years

    Oden>>>>>Yao

I just don't see what's special about Oden, people act as if he's the first 7 footer who can play defense....if Yao can dominate against Shaq, Howard, etc. he can take Oden....

Shaq is old now, Howard is still young, but he will dominate Yao. Yao is not dominate, he just isn't. He isn't a guy I see play and say "Oh man, here is Yao" I say "Yao, cool, maybe he won't get blocked by a 5'4 kid" Oden is dominate (without the fouls) He is stronger then Yao and is going to win a lot of DPY awards.

my point is if Yao can dominate against Howard what makes you think he won't do the same against a rookie?....I'm not saying Yao is the most dominant big man ever or the most dominant player in the game today, but you're giving Oden stripes he hasn't even earned yet.

There's more than one level of play. To me, Oden earned his stripes three years ago when he was the High School Player of the Year as a junior. Outside of LeBron James, who else has had that sort of success at such a young age? Then he confirmed those stripes last season by leading Ohio State to the NCAA finals with a roster that outside of Mike Conley was full of scrubs.

NBA fans are too skeptical of Oden, which is weird, because usually NBA fans are too quick to jump over rookies and prematurely proclaim them as the next big thing. It's funny, because now that the next big thing has actually come around, everyone is incredulous.

^Truer words couldn't be said. He is the next big thing and everyone is saying that he will get owned by Yao or he is a bust or other stupid things. He is going to be amazing. He will only get better and with time will become the next dominate big man since Shaq.

You see, it's that "with time" clause that throws everyone off. Yes, with time he'll be the best big man in the game, hands down, but he's also going to be a top ten big man his first year in the league, maybe even the best defensively.

The problem with the Dwight Howard comparison is that he's a decent help defender, but his one-on-one defense is horrible. At this point in their careers, Oden is twice the defender. Offensively, Dwight's arsenal is limited to transition baskets and dunks. At least Oden has an array of post moves at his disposal.

I don't know I just wasn't impressed watching him at Ohio State....we'll have to wait and see.

I've gotten into this argument a million times, so to save time, I'm just going to quote myself on this one.

'Many casual fans got the wrong impression of Oden this season, because a torn ligament in his right wrist kept him sidelined for the first month of play. Not only did this hurt Oden from a conditioning standpoint, but it also took him a while to be integrated into the Buckeyes’ offense. In fact, it wasn’t until their January 13th match-up with Tennessee that Oden really showed what he was capable of in a dominating 24 point, 15 rebound performance. Make no mistake though, his offensive game is a lot stronger than the experts let on; he’ll be able to anchor a team’s offense right off the bat.

One of the great things about Oden is that even if he’s not touching the ball, he’s changing the way defenses approach his team, like Shaq and Duncan before him, and although he wasn’t a great passer coming into Ohio State, he really developed his skills as a distributor and his ability to pass out of double teams in his freshman season, and should be a headache for teams trying to double down on him in the post.'

But if you want to agree to disagree, I'll take a sig bet from anyone on this board.

How's this, Yao gets held under 20/10 or Oden puts up 20/10. If either of those happen, I get to choose your sig for a week. If neither happens, I'll take your sig for a week.

Yes I agree, with everything you are saying, but the with time" I think is important. He will be a great big man his first year, and he will be a great defensive big man, but time is important because I think he can still improve and is not just gunna stick with what he has now.
