<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The 76ers consider fourth-year swingman Andre Iguodala a budding star, and apparently others in high basketball positions agree.

A source confirmed yesterday that Iguodala has been invited by U.S. senior national team managing director Jerry Colangelo to join a group of young players to scrimmage the senior national team before it competes in the FIBA Americas Championship.

Iguodala accepted the invitation and will be in Las Vegas from Aug. 13 to 21, working out with the national team.

The FIBA Americas Championship is scheduled for Aug. 22 to Sept. 2 in Las Vegas, and the U.S. senior national team is set to begin practice Aug. 15.

The top two finishers in the 10-team FIBA Americas Championship will earn qualifying spots for the 2008 Olympics.

This will give Iguodala a chance to have an early audition for a spot on the 2012 Olympic team. Last season, he averaged 18.2 points, 5.7 assists and 5.7 rebounds for the Sixers.</div>

Trippie, I was just talking to C.K. online about this the other night. We were both wondering why Iguodala hadn't been invited to tryout for the team.

He'd fit in well with the team concept Coangelo and the coaching staff is trying to build. He has the triple threat skillset (pass, rebound, & score) to play alongside the other stars on the team, and plays defense.

Hopefully this is just the start of things. I also expect Andre to be an All Star this season, with numbers like 23 ppg 6 rpg and 5 apg.

I like the fact that Andre Iguodala's getting recognition, but he's going to have a hard time making the final roster. There's a lot of talented swingmen on this roster, and he'll have to compete with guys like Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Mike Miller, Micheal Redd, Tayshaun Prince, and Shane Battier for a spot on the roster. But Iguodala's defense may help open some eyes. I can see him beating out Redd, Prince, and Battier. He just has to work harder on his offensive game and hit his shots consistently, and that will give him a good shot.

The article also mentions that the 76ers and Iguodala have begun talks on a contract extension. If he does receive the max the first years salary would range any where from 12 to 14 million dollars. The extension would not kick in until after the 2008-09 season so we could sign him to an extension and still make noise in free agency. Still, I would not be surprised to see us explore trade options involving Dalembert this upcoming season.
