It's fun, gives you a sense of accomplishment when you finish and feels even better when you get the predictions right.
I would have put Kobe as MVP too, but they would only give it to him if the Lakers are in the top 3 of the west.
I know the media usually favors the player whose team is at the top of the league when giving out MVP, but still, I can't see anyone else winning it. -Steve Nash and Tim Duncan are out because I don't think the media will give them their 3rd MVPs. -Garnett has a chance but his stats will be lower than before after getting traded to Boston. -Stoudamire won't have an MVP caliber season. -Nowitzki won't win a 2nd straight one, especially after what happened when he won his 1st (see: Mavs vs Warriors). The league will do anything possible to not go through the awkwardness and embarrassment of that situation. -The Pistons, Jazz and Bulls have no MVP caliber players. Of course, that's all my opinion, it's not facts. That leaves LeBron, Yao, T-Mac, Arenas and Kobe as the only MVP caliber players on playoff teams that I can think of. T-Mac and Yao have a shot and they're on the best team out of all 5, but their stats won't be as extravagant as Kobe's and Gilbert's and LeBron's, and in the MVP race stats count. Out of Kobe, Arenas and LeBron (who are all on non-elite teams), I'm picking Kobe.
I went with Lebron cause his team will be a top 5 in the east and I think he will have his best season yet. I think the media would rather give Duncan and Nash there third MVP's then Kobe, who's team will get no higher than the eighth seed or not even make the playoffs.
<div class="quote_poster">CLos Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Kobe gets screwed over by the media always. LeBron has a good chance this year though in my opinion.</div> Well LeBron might get some heat from the MVP voters, for performing so poorly in the Finals. That could help Kobe out a bit.
Kobe has almost no chance of winning it next season, because the Lakers will struggle just to make the playoffs. I think Cleveland should be a top 3 seed, and that team is so thoroughly dominated by LeBron he'll get a ton of MVP votes. That's the safe bet, at this point. I think T-Mac and Yao can get considerable attention in the MVP race, but neither are likely to win the whole thing because credit will be split between them. Boozer is another player to look out for, in addition to the regulars (Nowitzki, Nash). I think Garnett and Wade may also be in the conversation, but they're long shots.

If the Lakers manage to stay healthy that could be a possibility.
<div class="quote_poster">P.A.P. Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">KG for MVP!</div> Lol, I was just gonna post this. If Boston does get a top 3 seed in the east I can see KG getting some MVP love again. I bet the media would really want to have him the mvp too because they seem to be "tired" of nash and timmy d and just plain won't let kobe win it until his team does something. Lebron will probably get it though. I really don't get why everyone thinks Kobe gets screwed by the media. His team isn't good enough. That's the way the system works. KG got "screwed" too then before he won his. So did plenty of other players, it's just the way the system works.
Wow, Elton Brand just ruptured his ACL (Source). That knocks off one PO contender. I wonder if it will lead to the Clippers deciding to finally move Corey Maggette, Cassell, etc. give the young players some run and tank for Mayo, Rose, Batum, etc. to pair with Brand (when he recovers), Thornton, and Kaman.
^^Wow, that's crazy! I bet Cassell is going to want to leave as soon as he can. The clippers just keep getting screwed over by injuries.
My unapologetic look at the upcoming season. Standings East: 1) Chicago - Hinrich, Gordon, Wallace, and especially Luol Deng will prove that a year older and with the playoff experience sweeping out Miami, that they're ready to take the east's top spot. 2) Boston - Despite their present lack of depth, Ainge will likely find cheap, reliable veterans to fill the remaining slots (Sam Cassell, perhaps?) and ride the big three to the east's second seed. 3) Detroit - Detroit will, as they normally do, have an impressive regular season before being bounced from the playoffs, looking downright apathetic in the process. Still, Billups, Hamilton and Wallace get you the third seed. 4) Toronto - A young team on the rise, and with an exceptional big man, Chris Bosh will be one of only two eastern players (Dwight Howard) who can match up pound for pound against Garnett when the Celtics come to town. 5) Washington - For all they seem to be stretched thin, Gilbert Arenas will find a way, as he generally does. Nick Young will quickly establish himself as a more comfortable and reliable scorer than Antawn Jamison, who will go back to doing what he does best; scoring on broken, scattered plays, and not playing defense. 6) New Jersey - With Kidd's age, Carter's oft-maligned brain, and the lamentable quality of some of the supporting cast in NJ, I can in no way see better than a 6th seed for the Nets, 7) Orlando - Rashard Lewis can still score, right? Cause the Magic will need him to do a lot of that. 8) Charlotte - Jason Richardson will earn his first all star nod playing in the eastern conference, will be a 25+ PPG scorer, along with 6+ rebounds, and he will, as he would've liked to be last year, be the leader of a young team holding the 8th seed. West: 1) Denver - Carmelo Anthony and Allen Iverson will play an entire, healthy season, and secure the west's top slot. Nene will be an all NBA rebounder, and Marcus Camby, despite slipping a little, will play well. 2) Phoenix - Steve Nash, as he likes to do, will win a lot of games, and will inevitably miss a stretch of three or four that will reveal that nobody else in Phoenix knows how to tie their own shoes. 3) Houston - With coaching by Hakeem Olajuwon, Yao Ming's post moves will elevate from good to unstoppable, and Rick Adelman will create an offense that flows through Tracy McGrady. They'll be the highest scoring guard/center combo in the NBA. 4) San Antonio - An old team on paper that's even older when you consider the wear of their championship runs, the Spurs will have a "down" year as Ginobili's reckless play wears down his body, Duncan sucumbs to injury, and Parker, lacking his usual running mates, relies more on jump shots out of his range. 5) Dallas - Perhaps the big surprise of the season, Dallas will stumble into the playoffs as a 5th seed, following two consecutive years of unimaginable downfall in their biggest moments. Jason Terry, while still consistant, will continue to lack the abilities the Mavericks would like in a true point guard, and JJ Barea may get a chance to show his skills. 6) Golden State - The biggest change for Golden State lies in 21 year old center Andris Biedrins, who polishes his offensive game, and continues to be a defensive stopper and skilled rebounder. Biedrins goes for 16/10 and 2 blocks per game, along with Baron Davis' career high in assists at over ten per game. 7) Utah - Due to continued dischord between Andrei Kirilenko and Jerry Sloan, as well as instability at the shooting guard position and injury issues for Carlos Boozer, the Jazz slide into the 7th spot. 8) New Orleans - Chris Paul re-establishes himself as the league's best pure young point, but still struggles mightily to get a disjointed New Orleans squad into the 8th seed. ------------------ Awards MVP - Kevin Garnett Rookie of the Year - Greg Oden Coach of the Year - Scott Skiles Defensive Player of the Year - Shane Battier Sixth Man of the Year - Monta Ellis (if he qualifies) Most Improved Player - Al Jefferson All NBA Teams First Team: G - Steve Nash G - Kobe Bryant F - LeBron James F - Kevin Garnett C - Yao Ming Second Team: G - Baron Davis G - Dwayne Wade F - Tracy McGrady F - Tim Duncan C - Amare Stoudemire Third Team: G - Jason Kidd G - Gilbert Arenas F - Carmelo Anthony F - Chris Bosh C - Dwight Howard All-Rookie Teams First Team: G - Mike Conley, Jr. G - Marco Belinelli F - Jeff Green F - Kevin Durant C - Greg Oden Second Team: G - Acie Law G - Nick Young F - Corey Brewer F - Brandan Wright C - Spencer Hawes
