For anyone who has ever written rhymes before then you know how important it is to kick off your verse right. If you can catch the listeners attention with your first line or two then most likely you can have it all throughout the verse....anyways post some of your favorite opening lines from MCs...I'll start Snoop Dogg - It Ain't No Fun "Guess who's back in the motherf***ing house / with a fat dick for your motherf***ing mouth!!!!" It really doesn't get any better than this....I know a lot of you will look at it and think it's simple, but the main thing it does is catch your attention....and it's incredibly funny.....he just comes out and says guess who's back and guess what I got for all of you?.... Nas - NY State of Mind "Rappers I monkey flip em with the funky rhythm I be kickin/ Musician inflictin composition of pain/ I'm like Scarface sniffin cocaine/ Home of the M-16 / see with the pen I'm extreme" the lyricism and the way this flows together is incredible and immediately makes you listen real close to what this man has to say....Nas gives you this kind of poetical MC with a twist of grimeyness to it with the Scarface referrence. Big L - Danger Zone "I got styles you can't copy b*tch/ It's the triple six in the mix, straight from H - E - double hockey sticks" Nice use of multis and the double hockey sticks brings a lot of creativity that shows people you're in to using word play Eminem - Criminal "My words are like a dagger with a jagged edge/ that will stab you in the head whether you're a *** or les / homosex, hermaph, or a trans-a-vest/ pants or dress / hate fags?.....the answer's YES!!! / homophobic??? nah you're just heterophobic" The way Em ripped this just goes to show you how talented the man used to be....the way he put his words together just shows you his skills for rhyming and making fun of people to the point where his lyrics feel like "daggers" Inspectah Deck - Triumph "I bomb atomically / Socrates philosiphies and hypothesis can't define how I be droppin these mockeries / lyrically perform armed robbery / Flee with the lottery possibly they spotted me/ battlegun shogun explosion when my pen hits/ tremendous, ultra-violet shine blinds forensics" the illest thing about this besides the excellent use of multis is the in depth look at this mans dopeness...this guy said Socrates philosiphies can't even define his lyrical greatness.......that's some crazy ish.... Andre 3000 - ATLiens "My oral illustration be like clitoral stimulation to the female gender / ain't nothin better, let me know when it's wet enough to enter" Wow...I currently have this as my myspace header...my words can't describe how ill I think these 2 bars are Rakim - In the Ghetto "I learn to relax in my room and escape from New York / and return through the womb of the world as a thought" This is just on some abstract next level ish......this line just puts me in a peaceful state for some reason Rakim - It's Been A Long Time "Follow procedures, the crowd couldn't wait to see this Nobody been this long awaited since Jesus Who wouldn't believe this - I heard the word on the street is I'm still one of the deepest on the mic since Adidas They said I changed the times from the rhymes that I thought of So I made some more to put the New World in Order with Mathematics, put your status above the average And help you rappers, make paragraphs with graphics" This man just sounds like he's the God of rhymes with this one....nobody been this long awaited since Jesus????.....damn. Ice Cube - Endangered Species (tales from the darkside) "You wanna free Africa I'll stare at ya / cause we ain't got it to good in America / I can't f**k with them over seas / my homeboy died over kis" whether you agree with this or not, it takes you into this mans mind state and what he's thinking about Biggie Smalls - Freestyle "Biggie Smalls is the wickedest Ni##as say I'm *****, I dare you to stick your dick in this If I was ***** I'd be filled with syphilis Herpes, gonorrhea, climittia, getting rid'a ya" this is nasty for more multiple reasons I'll add more later.....feel free to post your own and why you like the lines.
