<div class="quote_poster">dotmotion Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Is there something about KG going to resign after this season...</div> im pretty sure boston said they wouldnt take him unless he signd an extension now or promised to stay, due to the fact that his contract expires nex year. cause when you think about it, boston would be trading a bunch of players and draft picks for what i've heard been called, a "a KG one yer rental".
Damn! The Atlantic Division has come alive. Celts and Knicks have improved quite a bit in the offseason and it's gonna make the East playoffs worth watching this year. Celts, Nets and Knicks have the best 1-2-3 punch in the East.
The Net's improved too because of Krstic and RJ's health, and the addition of Magloire even. They won 49 games the last time all those guys - Magloire were healthy, and they weren't getting production from Nachbar then. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I think this team's got a lot more heart and potential for chemistry though. These three players all seem pretty hungry and desperate for a ring.</div> Also with KG as their PF, and Pierce at the SF position, and Rondo at PG if he's staying, a better defensive team than that Dallas team. Much better really. Just to add, in getting depth, the Celtics could look at James Singelton and Jarvis Hayes who shouldn't be too expensive.
I can't believe they were able to keep Rondo. I have to tip my hat to Danny Ainge for putting together an incredible offseason.
^Yup, in 2-3 years, if they don't win anything, they are done. i still think this team cannot co-exist, but I may be proved wrong.

<div class="quote_poster">Bobcats Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">What's the official deal? Is Gomes involved or no?</div> yeah he is. It's Al Jefferson, Ryan Gomes, Sebastian Telfair and Gerald Green. Plus 2 future first round picks. This would work out even nicer if Boston could bring in PJ Brown and Brevin Knight. Shoot, with those big three names in Pierce,Allen, and Garnett, Ainge could persuade any of the remaining free agents to come to Boston. Perhaps even Chris Webber.
Boston should go after Alexander Johnson, maybe James Singleton like I already said. Webber is an interesting option, I didn't think of him, but if he willing to accept the minimum or what kind of deal is he looking for? For backup PG, Earl Boykins could also be an option for them, and Jumaine Jones is a guy they could also get for the minimum as a backup foward, and Cato as a mimimum backup C.
I think you guys are overating this team, if there is one thing we have learnt as NBA fans, is that too many superstars on one team doesnt necessarily mean championships. I dont think its worth throwing the Celtics future away for. A star team > A team of stars.

The Lakers came close a couple of years ago, but Malone and Payton weren't exactly in their primes by the time they got to Los Angeles.
ESPN just reported that the KG trade to Boston went through, I didn't get any of the details but it looks like he's finally out of Minnesota

I dont think its worth throwing the Celtics future away for. A star team > A team of stars.</div> I get a much different feeling from this team becuase the three stars they have are all unselfish, older guys who are STARVING to win. The Lakers team o' stars was a bunch of old, cocky, selfish fools in the midst of a big controversy between Kobe and Shaq. The Mavs one was again, selfish and extremely soft and unbalanced (the only guys on the team with heart and some balls were Nash and Finley). IMO theres a couple flaws with the current team the Celtics have. The biggest is definitely coaching. They have an amazingly talented, hungry team now but a bottom 5 coach in the league. I can already see him making some effed up moves in the POs and screwing the team. The problem here is that this team will surely do well in the regular season so Doc will probably never get fired no matter how incompetent he is becuase Ainge is too afraid to make a move unless his job is on the line. Coaching is really a HUGE key in the NBA, thats been one of the biggest differences in the East and West for the last several years IMO. The West has tons of very good coaches; Popovic, Jackson, Sloan, Nelson, McMillan, D'Antoni, A. Johnson, Adelman, Karl, etc. Who does the East have? Riley, Saunders, and Skiles are the only notable ones and they're all overrated IMO. For all the talent the Celtics have I will never consider them near the level of the Spurs, Mavs, Suns, maybe even Rockets this year because their coach is so incompetent. The Cavs proved that in the East you can float by with talent alone but once you get to the legit contenders you're going to need more than raw basketball talent to win. Spurs were realistically probably the third best team in the west as well since Phoenix at full strength (and w/o potential ref controversy) probably would have won and the Mavs also match up well against the Spurs but they got knocked out way early. Another concern with this team is depth and youth at the surrounding positions. It sounds like The team will be Rondo/Allen/Pierce/KG/Perkins with Powe, Big Baby, and Tony Allen (is he healthy yet) off the bench. Seems like Perkins, Rondo, T. Allen, and Powe have proven they can contribute in the NBA but their inexperience and youth (and injury problems for Perk and Allen) may hurt the team. Ideally the Celts will sign a few cheap, solid, veteran FAs to fill out the roster. Backup PG and a nice vet big man is probably their biggest need, potential suitors there could be B. Knight, Boykins, Chris Webber(?), PJ Brown, Pargo. They have time and resources to address this issue so I doubt it will be a problem, but you never know with Ainge.
With this trade the Celtics should automatically start looking for an experienced point guard and some size underneath. Brevin Knight and Mike Wilks are two point guards that Ainge should be heavily considering. On the frontline I think that they should look to bring in Big Hoffa (Rafael Araujo) or Marc Jackson to come in and protect Garnett from having to guard centers (ie. Eddie Curry) when Perkins gets in foul trouble. Whatever way you look at it Danny Ainge made the best short term this summer that I can remember. Boston went from a lottery team to a team that could be favored to come out of the East in a span of a month. Obviously this team isn't built for the long term but they do have a 2 year window where they can compete at the very least for a Eastern Conference Championship. If there was ever a time to get rid of an underachieving coach it would be now. Doc Rivers is the problem not the solution. Now would be the perfect time for Chuck Daly to come out of retirement. This team would win the championship if he were the head coach. More feasible option: Don Newman, top assistant for the Spurs. Regardless of how this season transpires Danny Ainge has shown me that when your back is against the wall as a GM you need to come out swinging as opposed to standing pat and trying to justify your methods for team building. At the very least he has brought excitement back to basketball in New England -- something no GM has done since the glory days of the 1980's.
