Kerry Collins will start the opener against the Jets. With Vince Young as second string and Billy Volek wrapping it up at third string. All this says to me is that Volek is getting traded and Young will start this season. All the Titans plans are going down the drain..but maybe for the better.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (TitansGirl)</div><div class='quotemain'>They need to let someone other than collins start. Not liking his starting throws at all.</div> I personally don't understand the thoughts in picking Collins over Volek. Personally, I thought Volek was okay in preseason. Collins didn't have a preseason snap let alone a practice in training camp. He has no rhythm or timing with his receivers. This was a terrible coaching decision by Fisher. He's definitely on his way out after this season. If they aren't going to go with Volek then start Vince. You've got nothing to lose because you're not going to win with Collins.
Titans should start Volek to up his trade value. Groom Young to start next year and let Volek show what he's got this year.

VY made his first start and didn't do great but I think he held the team together for about 3 quarters and had the score at 21-14 at one time...That is solid for a first start...

Young threw at a 48% completion rate and ran the ball 5 times for 3 yards. He had 1 TD and 2 picks. One of the team's TD was due more to an interception that anything. I think Young looked more like a rookie than solid. Corrections and disagreement aside, I did see things that made me think Young can make an impact in this league. He just has some learnin' to do.

I also saw things about Young that impressed me. I didn't expect a good performance from him at all. You can't deny the kid's arm strength at all, but he still doesn't put good touch on a deep ball. It's all sling, sling, sling with him right now. How terribly has the front office managed this QB situation in Tennessee? I can't say it enough. Let's recap... *Steve McNair is told not to come and work out with the team until they resolve his contract situation. *The Titans draft Vince Young over Matt Leinart despite having Norm Chow as their offensive coordinator. Chow only won a national championship at USC with Leinart as his QB. *Make the Vince Young maturation process go slower by letting McNair go to the Ravens. McNair was Young's mentor for the past 3 years. Young looked at him as a father figure. If anyone would get Young ready to play on Sundays then it would've been McNair. *Tell Billy Volek he's the starting QB for this year, but sign Kerry Collins the week before the season opener and name him the starting QB. Collins didn't take part in training camp or a preseason game with any team in the league. *Bench Collins and throw Vince Young into the fire against one of the best defenses in the league. Young needs a year. I hear the arguments that you need to know what you got in a young QB so why not let him play. I'll tell you why. Vince needs to refine so many parts of his game. He needs to work on his accuracy. He needs to work on his mechanics. He needs to learn how to play in a system that requires more than a zone read or a one read system. He needs to realize he's not that fast in the NFL. He won't be able to make 5 people miss him on a regular basis at this level. So where do the Titans benefit from this? They'll have a new head coach next year most likely. The only benefit I can see is drafting Calvin Johnson with that top 5 pick they'll probably be earning.
I agree that the front office hasn't handled this very well. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (cubuffsman78)</div><div class='quotemain'>So where do the Titans benefit from this? However, just to be clear, getting rid of Jeff Fisher would not right the ship. He's a good coach.

The only benefit is the ability to draft someone like Calvin Johnson.
