<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">In an interview with the Boston Herald, Rod Thorn compares his Big Three with Boston's and finds his wanting. The reason, he says, is that Big Three's work better when one of them is a big man, particularly a defensive presence. The Nets' president lamented his ability to replace Kenyon Martin, implying that the Nets will need a big man to return to conference championship form. Thorn also praised the Celtics decision to sign Eddie House but warned, he can't play point.</div>

Thanks God he's speaking like this. We can't win a championship without a defensive big man. Hopefully this could bring in JO. [IMG]

I think the Nets can still win, even without a super-big. What they need are TWO decent bigs who are above average rebounders and defenders.

The Nets players also need to play more consistently, unlike the last two years.

Without a super-big? They need JO to compete down low. Guys like KG, Randolph and Bosh can get by Kristic or Magloire. Jo is needed immediately. If they don't get them, they will get hurt inside big time.

JO would be nice, but I don't think we can get him. My argument is that the Nets need two decent big-men...Krstic is barely decent, and I doubt Magloire will be close to decent.

True, They do need JO or 2 decent big men. I think lossing Mikki Moore was a huge blow, but I hope Sean Williams and Josh Boone can come in to their own and contribute off the bench. I'm a strong beliver in Williams, and think he can be a force in a few years.

The Nets doesn't need a decent big man, they need a good big man. Just like Master Shake pointed out, the east has a Bosh, A randolph and now a Garnett to contend with. The Nets needs a Jermaine O'Neil, period. Thorn has to get off his ass and make it happen.

The way things are looking now, it doesn't look like we're getting JO, since if the Pacers finally bend over and stop demanding a riduculous price for O'Neal the Lakers will be their first option and will jump on that oppurunity. Don't get me wrong, I hope we get him, but it looks like our chances are slim.

I think bringing a decent big man and a three point shooter would be good moves. The big man would be a defensive specialist to help guard Garnett, Bosh, Randolph, Howard, etc. He needs to be good rebounder as well. What some of you are forgeting is that bringing Jermaine O'Neal to the Nets wouldn't solve the problem of guarding other star big men. Sure, he's a good post defender, but what makes him and other big men like him stars is that they are offensive weapons and can't be stopped that easily. Jermaine O'Neal wouldn't do a better job on Kevin Garnett than a lesser big man who plays great defense. O'Neal would help us a lot offensively and would be able to slow down some other team's big men, but it's not like he's Bruce Bowen. He won't be able to shut them down. Look at Kobe Bryant for example. He's considered a good defender, but if he faces Tracy McGrady or LeBron, he won't hold them to 15 points. On the other hand, Bruce Bowen (A DEFENSIVE SPECIALIST) can. See my point?

Jermaine O'Neal would be HUGE for the Nets and will put us in the leageu's elite offensively. But he's not good enough defensively to shut down any big man in the East. That's why we need a defensive specialist, whose sole job is to do that and grab rebounds. I don't see the point in bringing two decent big man, when we already have 5 on the roster. One is enough.

What are You Smoking? Jermaine is one of the best defenders in the league and may possibly be the best defensive big man (Yes, better than Ben and close to Camby). He was a strong candidate for DPOY but got little respect because the Pacers suck.
