Okay, he's popular, commercialized, and maybe a bit fake, but that's everything Kanye West is as well. At least his self-aggrandizing lyrics focus on his struggles in life and not his over-inflated sense of intellectualism like is the case Kanye West.

I know I throw this word around a lot, but Kanye West is the definition of pseudointellectual. He's the reason why the word was created.</div>

I think VC has a point though.

(Kanye) suggested in Playboy that if a bible were written in the present day, he is famous and important enough to be included in it. "I throw up historical subjects in a way that makes kids want to learn about them", West claimed. "[I'm] definitely in the history books already."</div>

<div class="quote_poster">Iggy Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Voodoo man, Kanye ain't really jacking riffs from artists. It's called sampling when he uses that type of stuff, you take something from another song and incorperate it into a new sounding beat. All producers sample beats, guys like Just Blaze. He's not jacking the song, he's sampling it and Kanye's known for sampling off songs off the 70's and 80's and making them into classic beats. Through the Wire is a perfect example where he sampled the song Through the Fire by Chaka Khan and turned it into a classic beat.
    </div>

Exactly what I was going to say. Kanye's actually one of the best samplers from what I have heard of him, because some others completely **** up the classic when they make the beats (most of Puffy's beats). If you think Kanye is nothing more than a guy who steals riffs off other artists, you can say the exact same thing about pretty much every single hip-hop producer out there. It's a part of hiphop producing. ****, it doesn't even have to be the vocals that are sampled (i.e- the "squirrel sound" as everyone says...it's actually just a use of changing the pitching obviously), a lot of producers just sample the melody, and most of them don't even give credit (i.e- JD).

I haven't heard too much from Kanye. I like a couple of his songs but his voice annoys me too much to listen to him too seriously for too long. I don't find him to be in-depth as a rapper, but I think some songs of his (such as Gold Digger) are quite enjoyable. He's not a poet like 2Pac was, but he's good for a listen compared to ****** ass rappers like 50 Cent. And as far as rapping goes, 50 has never has impressed me with any of his raps, but the same goes for Kanye. It's kind of wierd to say 50 is the better rapper of the two when his rhyming is basic as ****, and his mic prescence is not even that strong. On top of that, the guy slurs like crazy (not his fault I know, but still).

His arrogance is unbelieveable though (in a bad way).

Kanye does go in depth with his raps, even if he does it in a poppy kinda way like he did with Gold Digger, the song still has actual message to it. You don't find him to go in depth, but you admitted you haven't heard much of him, if you want some in-depth raps why not look a little deeper? You can start by listening to The College Dropout.

Agreed. Most people only hear the Kanye songs that get on the radio and don't hear songs like Through the Wire, We Don't Care, Spaceship, Roses ect..

IMO, All Falls Down is a pretty deep Kanye song. But like AF said, look into College Dropout and you'll find alot. I really think his new album is going to prove all the haters wrong like he said in the interview.

I think Murs said it best: "To the commercial rapper, your fans are stupid."

I've always hated All Falls Down. It's a good song and all, but that girls voice got annoying as ****!

Kanye is gonna blow 50 out of the water IMO. A lot of people have grown to dislike 50 and are tired of his songs. So far after hearing stronger and bittersweet I think Graduation is going to be great.

What can Kanye name his next album after Graduation. Entering Grad School?

I think he'll run short on ideas.

Nah, he already has the name, "A Good Ass Job", which is what you'd get after graduation. Eh?

Kanye is so clever and people are fooled too easily. Like 50 Cent, Kanye also has a gimmick, except his gimmick isn't "I'm a gangsta who's been shot 9 times." Kanye's gimmick is "I'm so intelligent and I'm different to the other commercial rappers." It amazes me that people are still fooled by him.

It's obviously just a concept series of albums, how is he going to run out of ideas? the whole school thing is kinda corny though...especially because he was a dropout on his first album, so how could he graduate?

Oh well Ye still makes good hip hop at the end of the day.

I've never found any hip-hop music to be confusing. It kinda sucks.

    Kanye > 50
I liked some of 50's songs, but I think in the PRESENT - I like Kanye more.

A few songs I like of Kanye a lot rite now would be:
    1. You can't tell me nothing
    2. Stronger

The only song right now from 50 is the one with JT and also that one song I Got Money. I don't remember the exact name. I don't really like Kanye that much anyways but I do like the song Stronger.

Main point is you probably just started following Kanye and go for mainstream shiz. Try listening to his other stuff, IMO lyrically those aren't even close to his best songs.
