Official "Farewell" to Adonal Foyle Thread

You know you'll miss him. Don't lie. You will. Afterall, it's been ten years. And, he took 66% of his buyout, far less than the industry-standard 80% which is typically demanded these days.

He was a walking conundrum -- he was the only guy in the history of sports to be at once both THE SMARTEST guy on the court and THE DUMBEST guy on the court. He paired with Dunleavy in earning the accolade from Nellie: "He must be about the dumbest smart guy I've ever coached."

Full-court "shot-put" one-handed passes which sailed out of bounds? You know it. Air-ball free throws? Look no further. Tipping in the opposing player's missed shot, while playing defense? Foyle, Foyle, Foyle.

Let's not kid ourselves. Somehow, this guy earned 42 Milly-milly-mill-mills over six years. He was given starter money. Heck, there was a time way back, when Antwan "twan" Jamison was scoring back-2back 50-point games.... Vonteego Cummings was wearing the protecitve mask.... Mookie Blaylock had a better chip-shot in golf than free throw in hoops...

Yes, there was a time when I had high dreams for the big fella from the Carribbean. Either way, the dude has a terrific accent. You can't take that away. Give him a few years, he'll be the next governor of CA...

There was a time I thought Foyle was going to develop a post game...

So what if he decided to instead work on his half-court prayer shots... at least he entertained the kids at sideline before the game...

After all, that's really what Foyle was here to do... No one expected him to actually become a good starter in this league...

So don't hold back... Share all of your pain and joy here...

i talked to foyle on two occaisions (probably because he spends more time talking to fans than warming up) and i have to say, he was definatley the most down to earth and friendly athlete i've ever met. he was a real good guy, it's just a shame he wasn't more consistent on the court. he took everything in stride with a smile on his face, you can't help but have a soft spot for the guy. i'm not going to miss him on the roster, but i'll be quick to give him a standing ovation the first time he plays against his old team. hahahaha...peace out adonal!!

Memories. The only thing that sticks in my mind is after he actually shot the ball over the backboard the announcer said foyle couldnt make a basket if he was alone in the gym.

Foyle is a standup guy and that is more important to have in a player once his career is over. The last thing society needs is a rich guy being a punk to everyone around him that doesn't have money. Foyle makes society better. Everyone should remember that.

It's just too bad he couldn't make our basketball team much better when he's fumbling passes, blocking off his own men in transition, missing point blank layups and gimmee dunks with nobody around him. He almost had the smallest standing vertical in the league. I bet he couldn't even clear a coke can at 250 lbs let alone 270.

How many teams have a ultra overpaid worthless (on-court) center, but love the guy? It's a testament to his greatness as a human being. He will be missed.

    Foyle for governor!

A block is as good as a dunk IMO so it's no wonder Foyle's highlight vids make him look pretty awesome. His offense is so horrible his 50% on field goals doesn't tell the whole story of how the guy drops so many passes and blows so many uncontested layups or dunks. Sigh... [IMG] I guess he's not our problem anymore now that he's gone. He wasn't a problem as of last year when the coach refused to play him in meaningful minutes.

No ... No .... Kobe must continue to stay in Lakerland ..... keep them mediocre at best.....

Although the idea of Kobe playing in europe intrigues me. Imagine never seeing that whining little bitch's face again. AAAAh. Lakers trade him to finland.

Are you allowed to trade a player over seas for another player?

I wonder where Kobe would go if he got traded, and what the package would be. That would be one MAJOR trade... hopefully to the EAST...

I had liked that deal Chicago had for Kobe, which was shown on ESPN. I love Kobe but I'm a Lakers fan first.

And is it me or does Foyle's hairline start in the middle of his head? (In the pictures where he does have hair.)

I still remember discussing whether to take Adonal or Kelvin Cato in the 1997 NBA draft. Actually, I decided on Foyle because he had more offense. The only defense I have today is that he was a scorer in college, albeit he was playing in a weak league and against smaller players.

We were trying to think of a nickname for Foyle and came up with The Foyler or Foyled Again, i.e. other teams would be going, "Curses, Foyled again." Who would have thunk at the time how 180 wrong those nicknames would turn out to be? It became Tin Foyle and Warrior fans were the ones going Foyled again.

BTW nice collection of vids on Foyle, Legacy [IMG].

Imagine if Foyle was actually good at anything besides shotblocking, which doesn't require as much coordination in the hands dept, just the arms and timing. The guy would be Grant Hill (Talent + class act)

I appreciate Adonal's time as a Warrior. He did his best with what he had (which was limited), and to me that say's a lot. I wish him well in Orlando.
