<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) -- The Detroit Pistons signed free-agent guard/forward Jarvis Hayes on Thursday. The 6-foot-8 Hayes appeared in 81 games last season for the Washington Wizards, averaging 7.2 points, 2.6 rebounds and 20.1 minutes. "We are pleased to add Jarvis Hayes to our roster," team president Joe Dumars said. "Jarvis has proven himself as a solid NBA player over the last four seasons, and we like the flexibility and depth he will bring to our team at the small forward position."</div> Link If Jarvis Hayes gets his jumper sinking again, he can be a nice threat off the bench for the Pistons and for any team in that case. He's a player that spreads the defense on the wing and he's a pretty solid defender and rebounder. The Pistons with this move added even more depth to their roster and I with guys like Maxiel, Hayes and Stuckey off the bench, the team looks real nice out front in the East.
Perfect backup for Rip Hamilton, and I can see Rip teaching him a lot of his tricks of the trade to give Detroit a mid-range weapon off the bench. The Pistons have pursued the combo-guard position aggressively this offseason. Should be a hotly contested preseason for this group to fight for minutes: Flip Murray Arron Afflalo Jarvis Hayes Rodney Stuckey Will Blalock
*gouges eyes out* ANOTHER guard? Jesus christ, kill me now. I like Jarvis, but why? We have no backup centre or PG, we just went out and acquired 4 shooting guards to add to the 3 we already had. Also Shape, Will Blalock got cut, he played for Denver in the summer league.
Jarvis is not really a SG, he's more of a SF. With a good defensive coach (not Flip to tell the truth), he's a guy that can be useful as a defensive guy who catches and shoots. He also needs a coach that makes him catch and shoot, and doesn't have him creating for himself. It would also help if he got more confidence in his knee, and maybe gained some athleticism back. He should be a nice addition for the Pistons off the bench though. I was thinking someone like Miami or Boston should've gone after him.
Good pickup for the 'stones. Hopefully this season they will be able to pick up a center. Flip can play minutes a the pg. The pistons are the best team in the east and they need to step up and act like it this season.

As for the other players, they all deserve the 1st spot off the bench and it will be interesting who Flip Saunders picks.
At what point in time will Joe Dumars trade Ronald Murray? Every move this offseason has indicated that he does not want him on the opening day this offseason but yet Flip is still a Piston. At this point his value is as low as it has been since he was waving a towel on the Milwaukee Bucks bench in 2002. At this point in time a future second round pick and some cash should be enough for this relationship to end amicably. This is a good signing for the Pistons. Although I don't see Hayes as a small forward if paired on the second string with Affalo I would imagine that his defensive deficiencies wouldn't be exploited as much. It really doesn't matter who the Pistons bring in if Flip Saunders continues to play his starters heavy minutes -- and not give the reserves the freedom to go after their games in the limited minutes that they get. You can't blame the bench for the Pistons missteps if they never got an opportunity to showcase their skills.
Why are we still signing guards? We need a damn center. Not a pf who doubles as a center(Sheed, Dyes, C-Webb...)
