<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Disgraced NBA referee Tim Donaghy is expected to turn over the names of former colleagues who bet at golf courses, racetracks and casinos during the season, and are involved in football pools, sources told the Daily News.

While the activities are not illegal, they would violate the referees' contracts that prohibit all gambling except at horse tracks in the offseason.

Donaghy, 40, pleaded guilty last Wednesday in federal court in Brooklyn, N.Y., to conspiring to commit wire fraud and conspiring to transmit wagering information across state lines. He reportedly gave federal prosecutors information that will implicate about 20 other referees - about a third of the officiating staff - as part of his cooperation with government officials.

"I don't know if there are 20 NBA refs even that close to Tim Donaghy," a source close to one referee said. "Donaghy was pretty much an outcast by a number of referees, especially the local guys. They threw their arms up a while ago with him. They didn't want anything to do with him, so I don't where this comes from."

The referees are under a league-imposed gag order.</div>

I don't see the relevance of any of this. Unless Donaghy implicates another referee that bet on games in which they officiated or provided inside information to other people for the purpose of gambling I do not see why the federal government would give a damn about this information.

The referee collective bargaining agreement has nothing to do with the federal government. The Feds could care less about what rules referees break in their own organization, just as long as they do not break the law.

I support Donaghy fullheartedly. If it'd save me a year in the pen, I'd throw my own mother to the dogs!

I think it would be pretty tough to prove unless he's got copies of the grids with their signatures on them. But then he's got to prove they paid, yeah, tough one. The only way I can see this being relevant to the feds is if they can uncover illegal activity. So far it seems as if only the NBA will be affected by this info as it clearly is against the verbiage in their contract that prohibits all gambling.

Hey, jail is a frightening thought.

Then again, think of the yo momma jokes you'd have to deal with.

"Yo momma so dumb, she trusted you not to snitch on her prostitution ring for a reduced sentence!"
