"It's easy," James added. "You don't have to second-guess yourself because he is there backing you up. I've always been quoted as saying Kobe Bryant is the best player in our league, and I'll continue to say that. You automatically try to feast off of that. Why wouldn't you? Why wouldn't you want to copy the best player in the world to better your game?"

It's nice to see other players coming out and giving Kobe some props

For sure, Kobe deserves those kinds of remarks...
The unselfish play and just the way he plays, I dont know what it is...
Out of all these great players, just by the way he plays and passes the ball or anything - he just seems like the leader of all out there.

And I liked how he told Coach K he wanted to guard the opposing teams best player.

It's great watching how effective Kobe is when he's surrounded by capable finishers and has the confidence to pressure the ball knowing there's a shotblocker behind him.

On the ESPN Herd radio show this morning, Doug Gottlieb had the perfect analogy of the Lakers situation and Kobe Bryant.

Kobe Bryant is the boyfriend who's happy with his girlfriend, but is trying to get her to be a little more attractive. The Lakers are the girlfriend who's just content being mediocre and doesn't want to take any risks by trying out a new look.

Actually, I disagree with that example. Kobe's trying to find an entirely new wife, because even if his current one gets a little more attractive or does the best she can in improving herself (eg acquiring Jermaine O'Neal and some role players), she won't be enough for Kobe (eg he won't win a title), thus the only way for Kobe to be happy is to get with another woman.

However, Kobe is a man that can't get married to someone else because his wife won't give him a divorce, and so this new, dream woman won't be with him unless she is his new, legal wife. As of now, he's obligated to the Lakers only by a contract.

By chance however, he has a magical clause that will grant him an auto-divorce and allow him to escape this purgatory.

Kobe Bryant loves the Lakers franchise and history though. He's said it on multiple occassions, dawning the yellow armor gives him chills.

He still believes in the Lakers, but not necessarily in the current people running (or pretending to run) the team.

I think the Lakers can compete for a title with Kobe-Odom-O'Neal. Adding one more piece, or vastly improving the depth are two paths this team can take to get back to becoming a championship caliber team.

Kobe knows what he's capable of doing with the right players around him. Laker fans know what he's capable of doing with the right players around him. But the frustration is watching this team do nothing to surround Kobe with the right personnel for the past three seasons.

Sorry to continue with these analogies but I'm bored.

Kobe loves the Lakers, but his prime objective is to win a title. Just like a shallow husband might recognize how "easy-going" his first wife was, in the end what mattered to that guy was "other things", so that husband found himself someone else. Kobe still really wants out.

Kobe-Odom-O'Neal seems out of reach at the moment. I actually overestimated LA's commitment in bringing in new players this off-season.
