<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Unless the Milwaukee Bucks sign restricted free agent Charlie Bell, they too are woefully thin behind their starter (Mo Williams) at the point.

They too have a crisis first-round draft pick Yi Jianlian refusing to sign with the team. The Lakers have been linked to Yi as one of six rumored preferred destinations for the Chinese forward: Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, Toronto Raptors, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers and Lakers.

The Lakers were one of the few teams who worked out Yi before the draft. A source close to the team indicated at the time that they were left very impressed.

Although the Lakers may not be willing to offer equal talent, the Bucks appear to have a very short list of suitors which has given them precious little leverage. Although Yi can sit out the year, they may bank on him eventually coming around and refuse to trade him.

Then again they may find that a trade is the best and only option. Though Farmar may not be enough, perhaps LA would be willing to take on the large contract of forward Bobby Simmons (who missed the entire season with a heel injury).

Although he's a solid player when healthy, Simmons is dramatically overpaid. The Bucks are stuck with his $29.8 million three-year contract. Making matters worse, Simmons has a 10% trade kicker . . . reducing his value to prospective suitors even further.

Would an offer of Farmar, Brown and a first round pick be a fair deal for Yi and Simmons?

Would the Lakers also be able to pawn off Vujacic or would they have to sweeten the pot with Evans?

Bell would certainly be a nice addition to the Lakers as well, though if the Bucks had to include a player as a throw-in piece . . . it'd probably be someone more like David Noel.

Although Yi might not be the big piece to placate Kobe Bryant, he'd be an intriguing acquisition. His style of play would seem to mesh well on paper with Bynum. While Yi is a face up four who is money from mid-range . . . Bynum is a true back-to-the-basket center.

It's difficult to tell how quickly if ever Yi will be a star in the NBA. He's branded with that scary "P" word: Potential.

If Yi can acclimate quickly to the NBA, Bryant may find he's a part of an exciting young team.

If he still wants to leave, the Lakers would have some interesting pieces left in his wake to build around.

At this point it's nothing but a little internet buzz but it may be a suitable Plan D.

Emplay reported on CL that there have been talks between the Lakers and the Bucks. But obviously, talks don't really mean much, and most of the time, talks are just talks. They never lead anywhere. Anyways, rumor is, the Lakers will trade Kwame Brown, Maurice Evans, Jordan Farmar, future picks, in return for Bobby Simmons (9 million dollar contract, injured last season), and Yi Jianlian (who wants to play for a big market). I'm not a big fan of either Simmons or Jianlian, but considering all we have to give up, I'm all for it.

Don't get your hopes up. This will probably end up like all the other rumors this offseason, and the season before that. I highly doubt we land the two for such cheap value, and chances are slim that the talks may even still be occurring. It's a slow offseason, so cheers to another rumor [IMG]

Sun Yue and Yi Jianlian on the Lakers would be a marketing dream for the Buss family. The Lakers could surpass the Rockets popularity in China with those two on the roster, if they prove they can play.

I can't see why Milwaukee would settle for this deal. It doesn't make any sense for them because they don't really need Jordan Farmar when they have Mo Williams and Charlie Bell (should be resigned soon).

There are better expiring contracts available to them besides Kwame Brown if they made Yi available.

The Warriors could trump our deal and Golden State would be a viable fit for Yi.

The Warriors still have the trade exception from the Jason Richardson deal, and they could send over Pietrus, Patrick O'Bryant, and Sarunas Jasikevicius (expiring K)

We don't need another project with potential. If we are trying to win now. If this meant trading Kobe to get more talent to surround Yi and Bynum with, I would do it in a heartbeat. A Bynum and Yi combo down low sounds really good, if they live up to thier potential.

Yi averages 23/8 in the Efes World Cup against players like Darko, Biedrins. He is the leading scorer and 2nd in rebounding.

Take him if you can get him, and pray he comes along as predicted. You are not really giving up all that much and since you guys drafted Javaris, you musn't have had too much faith in Farmar anyway!!!

Yi can play to his potential or what we believe he can play like and Sun just plays a solid backup role when he does get here, they could be great and this trade would be great, but again like the author says its all based on "potential"

Now saying that I'm a fan of Yi and Yue so of course I would love them both to play together, but bias aside, there are too many "ifs"

But if is the only trade we can pull off this summer, I would do it. We'd be young too lol

    PG: Javaris
    SG: Kobe
    SF: Odom
    PF: Yi
    C: Bynum

If you think about it all these guys could be great down the road. Problem: Kobe has no down the road to wait for.

    EDIT:
Looking at it, we could be a good fastbreaking team lol

Exactly, we're not giving up much to land Yi and Simmons. Just two seasons ago Simmons was the Most Improved Player in the league for the Clippers. He's just had bad luck with injuries, but Simmons can shoot and also defend when healthy.

Yi doesn't have to come right in and do much for the Lakers. They can use him sparingly and develop him to be an impact player down the line.

I'd argue the Lakers could win more with these two than with Kwame, Farmar, and Evans.

Kwame Brown is not going to return after this season. The Lakers do not plan on bringing him back, and I wouldn't be surprised if this is his last season in the league unless he wants to take a huge paycut.

It is longer about fair trade value when regarding to Yi. The China government won't allow Yi to play for the Bucks. From a business and marketing standpoint, LA Lakers is the ideal dream for Yi and China. The Bucks have to trade Yi to a destination of China's choice, otherwise the Bucks lose Yi for nothing because China can block Yi from entering in the NBA.

The Chinese government? They have no role in this. It is Yi, his agents, and marketing team that want him to go to a bigger city, most likely. They want more money.

I've heard so many people talk about how China's government doesn't want him to play in Milwaukee and that's a very ignorant comment that's based purely on presumption, but people state that as fact. Think about it, for a govt. that makes billions upon billions of dollars, why would they give a crap about Yi and the few million he makes. Except for his status as an ambassador of his country, I doubt there's govt. officials who give a rat's ass. It's not like their govt. has a special NBA Dept. or something.

It's his own desire (and that of his marketing team) to seize making more money in a bigger market.

You're right, it's not the government. I think the owner of his current team in China is also pushing for him to go to a larger market because the team gets a percentage of any revenue Yi generates.

Farmar is the only point guard who is any good on the roster. The Lakers don't need another project at the four. If the Bucks get desparate they will take next years no. 1 and be happy they got anything.

Jordan Farmar is good, but he's a price I'm willing to pay if it means getting Bobby Simmons and Yi Jianlian in return. We already have another project at the point in Javaris Crittenton, plus a starter in Derek Fisher. We don't need another project at the four, true. But Yi Jianlian was taken 6th overall in the draft, and for the price of Kwame Brown, Jordan Farmar, Maurice Evans, and a future first round pick, I'd pounce on the deal. Not to mention we'd also be getting Bobby Simmons in return. There is no way the Bucks will only settle for a future first rounder. No way. There are teams out there that can, and will offer a lot more. I'm not even sure if the current rumored deal of Kwame Brown, Jordan Farmar, Maurice Evans, and a future first is enough

Alright, misinformation. I was reading another article long ago.

Anyhow I'm giving up hope of making any traumatic trade this offseason. It's full of disapointment. The FO lies about a major roster change. Anybody remember what Jim Buss promised? [IMG] I knew it, he can't be trusted. All talk but no action.
