"We are thrilled to add Ruben to our team," Clippers vice president of basketball operations Elgin Baylor said in a statement issued Wednesday. "Ruben plays hard every single night. Interesting signing by the Clippers, I had no clue he was in the teams plans.

He'll replace James Singleton (who signed overseas) and should get some quality minutes next season.

I agree with og15, this deal came out of right field, especially after Patterson said he wanted to play for a playoff contender (Boston or Miami his top 2 choices).

The Clippers will be contending for ping pong balls this year with Brand out. Maybe Patterson didn't get the memo on Brand's injury.

How convenient to have the Kobe stopper in the same city as Kobe. I bet his mere presence will throw Kobe's game off completely this year.

Correction "self pro-claimed" Kobe stopper. Ruben Patterson must get some type of kinky pleasure out of being embarrassed time and time again by Kobe. He'll experience the feeling 4 times next year.

I think this is a nice signing for the clips. He's a nice strong, aggressive player.

I like Patterson. He is the type of guy who can score, play defense and add toughness to a team. He should be able to help the Clippers a lot with Brand out.

Pretty good signing. However, I was surprised to see them sign Patterson when I thought they would go after a big man to sign. Anyways, he's a good pickup, solid defender, and an aggresive player.

I see it as a waste of money and roster spot for the Clippers. They should spend this season preparing their young players for next year, once Brand and possibly Livingston returns.

Give Korolev steady minutes and see what he can do with them.

The Clippers are a lottery team this year, so why bring in an aging Patterson?

Well, that's what I was thinking. I mean he's a good player, but why sign him?? He's no use on this team. They should've gone after a big man.

Is Livingston even returning? I thought his injuries were career threatening.

He'll return maybe next year or the end of this year. But he'll never be the same. He's lucky he has his height and the length to guard faster PGs.

Actually even worse, the Clippers will be one of those 9-11 teams, which means they don't make the playoffs, but don't get a good enough draft pick to significantly improve the team. The team lost Brand but then added two fairly solid veterans in Brevin Knight and Rubeun Patterson, so who knows what the plan is here.

If Brand was healthy, this would make a lot of sense. Patterson right now is more of a small PF/SF. He can bang inside, defend and do some dirty work, but like I said, he's the kind of guy the team would need if everyone was healthy. The Clippers can still sneak into the playoffs as there is talent on the squad, and they can play well enough and then possibly make it with a good run when Brand returns, but who knows. I don't know if making it at 8th really does much for the team.

The Kobe-Stopper is much closer to Kobe now.

Didn't know that. I like Singleton, why did he sign overseas?

That article is weird, because it seems to imply that Patterson is being signed as Brand's replacement. If that's what the Clippers intend, well, have fun. In addition to Patterson being 32 years old and having just had a career year in relative obscurity, he's also a sex offender, and I prefer to have less of those on NBA teams... which is also why I'm hoping the Warriors don't sign Pierre Pierce.

Brand is out for the year with a torn achilles, which is why Patterson will play minutes at power forward along with Tim Thomas and rookie Al Thornton.

At least it's one less team to worry about in the Pacific Division for the Lakers and Warriors.

couldn't have said it any better myself, what a ridiculous signing.

this is why "the self-proclaimed Kobe Stopper" can't handle Kobe, I'd like to see him try!

Patterson basically had a career year last year, and it was a contract year. Remains to be seen if he can come through for the Clippers now that he's signed.

He did play about 10% of Milwaukee's total minutes at PF, but I don't think he's a real solution at PF for the long term. He's got the ability to put up some good numbers, and he is a decent perimeter defender.
