Rafer is a good play maker when he drives to the hoop and dishes, but I think you love Rafer a bit too much. You earlier said he was going to have a breakout season averaging 7-8 assists a game. He is good but if we keep him we'll have to give up JL3 for sure and maybe Brooks who has a talented future. We can keep Brooks and Rafer but we'll be loaded with PG's. But JL3 should be gone no matter what.

the alston haters who claim hes a shoot-first can stop now and this also proves that LeBron is more of a pass-first player.

^^ James is Mike James not Lebron.

Alston does pass more than he shoots, but in comparison to the other starting PGs in the league, Alston does shoot a lot. He ranks #9 in highest tendency to shoot.

    1. J. Johnson - 36%
    2. S. Parker - 33%
    3. Arenas - 31%
    4. Bibby - 30%
    5. Iverson - 28%
    6. Mo. Williams - 27%
    7. Nelson - 26%
    7. T. Parker - 26%
    9. Alston - 25%

Rafer is no better as a "playmaker" then Mike James or Steve Francis. Feigen has also said this:

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Feigen:</div><div class="quote_post">Steve had holes in his game as a point guard, but strengths, too. He could not run a break, but he could find open shooters. He was not a high percentage shooter, but he could drive an offense, drawing fouls and creating chances.</div>

Rafer is a better passer than James or Francis, I"ll give you that, but it's not like he's extra special in that regard. James is flat out a better shooter, and both James and Francis are superior penetrators and finishers. Their strengths outweigh Rafer's.

i don't see feigen saying anything about playmaker.

Feigen said That Rafer is a playmaker.

Rafer is a better playmaker then James and Francis IMO.

he just can't create his own shot.

    Kinda like Andre Miller.

"Playmaker" is such a generic term. If you asked him if thought James and Francis were playmakers, he'd say yes as well (assuming he's not tired of answering all your questions [IMG]).

    as a player maybe.

but neither of them can create there own shot.

Miller is a better playmaker then Alston no doubt but Alston is similar to miller just that Alston can shot and score better then him.

Alston is a better shooter. But Miller is definitely a better overall scorer. Rafer has logged over 10,000 minutes in the NBA, and he's a career 38% shooter. That's pathetic.

    yeah i actually agree.

but Alston is pretty similar to miller.

Alston is a playmaker pretty close to miller but miller is clearly better, but i think Miller had more of a role so he had more assists.

Alston ran the offense but wasn't the primary playmaker thats what i want him to be next season if he remains in Rocket uniform.

I would expect Yao Ming to be the primary playmaker next season in Adelman's offense. The offense will run through Ming in the lowpost, and in the highpost (finally), Jeff Van Gundy never took advantage of Yao's passing ability in the highpost, Adleman will.

It will be Yao or Scola running pick and rolls with Francis, TMac, and James running back cuts and Battier spotting up for 3's.

    Invalid Video Link

Keep an eye on Webber's passing in the high post during the Princeton offense sets Sacramento ran.

I'd rather have the PG be the primary playmaker.

    Alston.

Yao to be the primary playmaker when rafer goes bench.

You put <font size=""4"">way </font>too much emphasis on "Labels" first the whole "Point forward" thing with Tracy and now "Playmaker". Tracy is/was the primary playmaker simply because the defense had to react and double him. Leaving players open for shots. Remember what happenned when Tracy wasn't in the game? Who would double Alston? He's a good passer but the "Only playmaking PG" is a little out there. Steve has averaged 6.1 assists for his career and had a string of 6 years with 6 or more assists. He's a better finisher at the rim and can drive and dish. Mike James Ranks #35 in the NBA in Assists Per Turnover(2.3) and again 35th in the NBA in Assists Per 48 Minutes(6.9) In Adelman's system everyone is a threat. A playmaker is a playmaker regardless of position and does not have to be your PG.

    hes a pass-first PG

and hes more of a playmaker then Mike James and Francis.

As for the Andre Miller thing, he's averaged 7.6 assists for his career, and he's done it despite playing for some real low teams in the past. Alston, on the other hand, has averaged 4.8 assists in his career. Miller also has a career shooting percentage over .460, and Alston, as Durvasa pointed out, does not, falling woefully shot even of a servicable NBA shooting rate.

I'm inclined to agree with Blurr#7 that it seems like you put a lot of stock in the titles assigned to different tasks and positions on a basketball team. That being so, Rick Adelman will likely be a frustrating coach to you, because he likes to toy with flipping traditional roles. This is not to say he does away with traditional roles altogether in the way a Don Nelson might, but he does enjoy bending conventionality.

And to be a "Playmaker" you can't be a scorer? Then explain Lebron James? And Steve Nash? Ultimately what is YOUR definition of a playmaker?

ok your the same guy who got mad because mcgrady isn't a point forward and he isn't ok?

    deal with it.

I don't care if adelman flips things around McGrady will never ever play point forward or point guard
