With coach Phil Jackson entering the final year of his Lakers' contract, transition appears to be in Los Angeles' future. The Chicago Tribune's Sam Smith is betting that the Knicks will make a major run at Kobe Bryant with the Bulls, Bryant's personal choice, still a possibility.</div>

There is more to read, but basically the Kobe rumor is in this paragraph.

okay, well who would the knicks offer? i doubt we would want any of their garbage players, if bulls make an offer and knicks make an offer, the lakers will definately choose the bulls offer, but then again its all up to kobe isnt it.

Theres no one on the Knicks I would want except for Curry and Lakers already have Bynum and Isaiah already said he's not trading Curry. I'm still hoping for Tyrus, Gordon, Noah and maybe Thabo.

It's probably just speculation. The Knicks have probably already offered us their best package when the Kobe rumors first surfaced, if anything, they'll just offer us basically the same package hoping we'll accept. The only way Kobe will be a New York Knick was the only way Kevin Garnett would have become a Laker, if he demands a trade to New York. And I'll be the first one to say that he won't

There is a slim to none chance of this happining. I mean, we have heard all this trade talk, but I doubt the Lakers want what NY has, and the Bulls might be the best offer. I mean, Gordon, Thomas, Noah, Thabo, Duhon or whoever, is a great deal in my books.

Didn't the Knicks pay off a lot of money in Luxury taxes last year. They will probably pay again if they Kobe?

At least the Lakers can celebrate Phil Jackson's career this year, I'll be sad to see him go.

I don't see PJax leaving after this season. The offer is on the table for him to return, and I wouldn't be surprised if he comes back and receives more control over the organization.

Of course a lot will depend on his health, but I can't see him turning down the money the Lakers are offering him.

Are you sure shape? I think with his health and LA's situation (you know...), I find his return next year to be dubious. If he was going to return, I think it would be for a contender.

The Knicks are the worst trade for the Lakers they have no player that might be a future for us and I don’t really think Kobe will want to play for Knicks because I doubt they will do any much better than the Lakers. But knowing Mitch anything is possible…

I don't see why Phil Jackson would return after this season, unless changes are made to make us contenders. I doubt he's having fun coaching a roster full of whiny babies who don't even put forth effort on the floor. He's not getting any younger, and even though he has had surgery, his hip has always been a concern. I can see Phil Jackson returning next season with a position in the front office (he has connections with Jeanie Buss), but I really don't see any reason why he would want to return to coaching. I mean, the money is always there, but at this stage of his life, and with the amount of money he has already made, one would think he would be better off going back to Montana and taking it easy, instead of traveling every single day and working his butt off as a coach. Now obviously if we somehow put together a championship roster, that might give him some incentive to return, but currently, this team is not going anywhere anytime soon, and doesn't really seem to have any sort of plan. I really doubt he returns next season as coach, but we'll see...

PJax is a completionist, which is a main reason I see him returning.Even though the Lakers are behind schedule since his return, I think he realizes a major part of it has been injuries.

The Lakers are a player away from turning the corner. Is the player going to come from the current roster (Bynum or Odom?) or will he be acquired in a trade?

Either way the foundation is in place now and the Lakers should be a cohesive unit next year with Fisher coming in and Mihm returning along with the rest of the roster.

Our frontline depth is promising and the versatility of the roster will allow us to take advantage of mismatches.

Kobe Bryant's commitment to defense should rub off on the rest of his teammates. I think spending time with Team USA, Jason Kidd, and Coach K has been a positive influence on Kobe's leadership skills. He needs to take all the positive reinforcement and motivational techniques he used in the FIBA tournament and apply them to his Laker teammates.

They are going to be paying loads of luxury tax this season regardless if they have Kobe or not.......
